I am greatly disappointed the erection and commissioning of this mobile phone tower was allowed to proceed by Banyule Council in the heart of a residential area without any apparent public consultation. I reside approximately 90 metres from the tower and did not receive notice of any kind that this tower was to be erected so close to my home.
The Radio Frequency EMF levels being emitted by this tower far exceed the recommended levels as per the "BioInitiative Report" 2012 therefore placing the neighboring public at potential risk of a variety of adverse health effects - especially children who are more susceptible. The BioInitiative Report 2012, is a report prepared by 29 independent scientists and health experts from around the world about the possible risks from wireless technologies and electromagnetic fields.
I have an unobstructed line of sight to the tower from my backyard. This afternoon I measured a RF EMF level of around 4 mW/m2 which is 4 times the maximum recommended outdoor exposure level. The enviromental EME report submitted to council as part of this planning application quotes a maximum cumulative EME level for a distance of 50-100 metres from the tower as 162.75 mW/m2. This exceeds the maximum RF EMF recommendations in the Bioinitiative Report by a staggering 162 times.
I would hope that in the interests of public safety Banyule council has the sense to relocate this tower to an alternative safer location. In the interim I would like to see appropriate measures taken by way of limiting power output, raising the tower height, installation of suitable shielding etc. to reduce RF EMF levels at ground level in the surrounding neighborhood to safer levels.
