I am a resident of Donald Street. We have been living on the street for the last 30 years. Donald street has always been suitable for families. But with this high rise apartment bubble going on around we are very concern as to the costs of our amenity. Our street is already busy and no longer quiet. We have constant noise coming from construction sites. There is ever present dust inside the house and our roads are damaged by heavy vehicle traffic. The propose plan when approved, will result in poor environmental performance and reduced liveability. Five storey dwellings overshadowing single houses are not needed or desirable. It will create large shadows, wind tunnels and poor street environment, which in turn will make activities such as jogging or cycling much less enjoyable. As a long term residents we are unwilling community which should not be made to endure yet more high-rise housing and an inferior quality of life. Such policies will sweep us back into the overcrowded, crime-ridden Dickensian gloom of past centuries. It is well known that high-rises separate people from the street, five storey is not the human scale. It will radically reduce chance encounters and propinquity. It will be environmentally unfriendly vertical sprawl. The five storey buildings are built largely of steel and concrete and are less sustainable than low rise and mid-rise buildings built largely of wood; They will deprive people and especially children of neighbourhood peers and activities. It will increases level of alienation and isolation. It has been proven that increase of the height of the building has negative impact on health and even shorten people's lives. We don't need another Hong Kong in Carlingford! We need to keep human proportions in our leafy suburb. We want Parramatta Council to consider rezoning the area so the true character of our suburb will be sustain. Residential overdevelopment is threatening to change the face of Carligford. It will will only benefit developers. And residents will be dealing with increasing noise, traffic congestion and parking stress. We look to Parramatta Council for protection of neighbourhood character and residential amenity. This proposed plan will stretch local infrastructure beyond capacity, and areas deserving of special protection may be vulnerable. This project is simply too big for the location.
