Hills Adventist College (Middle School and High School) is only a few hundred meters from this new store.
I am absolutely opposed to having a Liquor store next to a school.

I think it is a bad idea to have it situated so close to a school. Surely there are enough social problems these days without having temptation so close to vulnerable children and youth.

I have no problem with Aldi being in the position it is in. Its naive to think kids are going to be somehow corrupted by being within walking distance of a store that sells alcohol.

Aldi employs plenty of young people, and provides jobs and cheap groceries to its customers. My own 15 yr old daughter sees it more a place to get cheap snacks and lollies and potential employment, than a place to buy alcohol.
If you provide a proper parenting environment where personal responsibility and self control are key principals, kids will have the resilience to withstand the "temptations" of the world, regardless of where they might be found, from the internet to the bus-stop to the corner store.

As someone closely involved with the school, I don't believe it's right to have the selling of alcohol occuring within such a close proximity of where minors are receiving their education. What message is that sending to them and promoting when the goal is to teach them responsible use. You wouldn't set up an adult-only store so close, why would the selling of alcohol, also only for people over 18, be any different?

As far as I know it's not an 'adult-only' 'Liquor Store', it's a liquor license for a grocery store. There's no more message being sent here than already exits at every other super market. I bet they'll be selling cigarettes too as they all do, and other adult only things like asparagus and truffle oil. I get everyone's concern but the hyperbole and straw man arguments are misplaced.

As a local resident and a shopper at Aldi I am more than happy to have the ability to purchase the odd bottle when I am shopping at Aldi. I dont think its going to affect children at the school. I hope too that some nice restaurants open in the area too that serve drinks with dinner or a BYO service. Educating is the key not hiding things.
