This is so wrong. This development/change of use is not wanted by the residents. Yet we feel powerless to fight big business and the council. But just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should. There is no going back once residential properties no 1 and no 3 Hawkins Street, Hawkins St are approved/rezoned as part of the shopping centre and certainly no going back once no 1 is demolished. Car park one day McDonalds/WW pettol station the next? Shame on everyone involved in building/approving this.

Hawkins Street Springwood is a quiet suburban street which happens to back onto a busy shopping centre. The noise and traffic generated by the shopping centre has already devalued local real estate. Approval of this MCUI application would further negatively impact on the amenity of this area for local residents and yet again devalue our properties. There are reasonable and cost effective alternatives which can be made by the shopping centre owners such as low level (single) roof-top parking arrangements which would have a significantly reduced impact on the surrounding residences. The cost of increasing parking should be born by the developer/owner and not by the hapless residents of neighbouring streets. Whilst this application may generate a healthy fee I would hope that council have at the forefront of their review of said application the best interests of the current owners of residential properties abounding the centre which are already impacted by the operation of a large retail/commercial enterprise in close proximity . Should this application be approved it could be envisaged that this may be the first step towards further development of more damaging commercial options. It is not inconceivable to imagine the development of a petrol station or fast food outlet requiring access via Hawkins Street. Once this MCUI is approved, then further or additional access via Hawkins would be a small step, however, this small step would totally destroy the residential nature of our street. I request council assessors to carefully reconsider the broader context of this application and the risk of further eroding the low-key nature of this small suburban street.
