I live in a new apartment, a block of 6, in Christies Beach. There are 9 people living in these apartments where previously a single house would have stood, possibly only housing 1 or 2 people. Not everyone wants or can afford a large block. Urban sprawl is a problem. In my apartment block we are a community of people of all ages quietly enjoying our lives. I support apartments in the mix.

I was attempting to walk around the block a few days ago and walking past similar buildings on Penzance just metres away from this proposed development. There were so many rubbish bins all over the footpath I had to walk on gardens to get past - too bad for anyone with mobility challenges. The problem isn’t housing multiple people, it’s not planning appropriate space for the amount of rubbish bins that will be needed. It’s not planning for the amount of vehicles that will be cluttering the street. It’s not planning for the additional drain on the power grid or nbn. It’s not planning to replace green spaces or trees removed - instead just getting lumps of concrete. Development can happen with appropriate planning for these things, but this isn’t being monitored, encouraged or enforced in this area. The character of the suburb is going, and the streets are getting more dangerous to navigate because of narrow streets being cluttered with cars from these developments. It is getting harder to go for a walk around the neighbourhood because of footpaths being cluttered by bins and excessive cars parked everywhere from these developments. Developments need more off street parking that actually fit the size and amount of cars people have. Developments need green space. Developments need more appropriate waste management.

110% agree with Margaret. Sam thing happening in Grundy Tce. It’s really sad.

    Well said Margaret
Well planned, efficient buildings with some beauty rather than concrete blocks built to cheapest standard
    Potential ghettos of the future
Practicalities of building need to be looked at to prevent future problems

They are turning our lovely suburb into a ghetto.

Never have I seen such a gaggle of Karen's complaining. Housing is unaffordable all over the state and for some people (Kathryn & myself for example) can't afford to buy in other areas. The median level house price 12 months ago in Christie's Beach was $350k, today it is $500k and part of this is due to new developments because for the same money you are lucky to get a unit closer to the city, you can at least get a"Lego house" or "ghetto" as you put it and have 3 bedrooms for a family as opposed to a one bedroom apartment. This is just the beginning, for all of you that hand your house down to your children, they to will sell it, develop it and maximise the property's value. Not everyone was lucky enough to be born when housing prices averaged between 80-160k between the 80s & 90s. I'm sorry you feel things are getting ruined but this is happening in every part of the world. Christie's Beach is not insulated from it but the opposite. Good day.

Well said Margaret. I witnessed a beautiful 100 year old Norfolk Pine ripped down this week on Penzance ave. People pay good money to see these magnificent trees on Norfolk Island and Christies Beach is destroying so much not only history in these trees but the green environment all round. As one of "those" 80's children myself we are entitled and rightly so to be horrified at what is happening to this once lush green suburb. The grey concrete infill and car build up is awful. Children are playing on the streets at risk to their safety as they no longer have yards to play in. Congested cars parked all over the street restricts seeing them until it's too late. 2 properties per block is a way to curb the traffic/ bins/ no trees/ plants issues. Do we see McLaren Vale with hideous lego townhouses everywhere, Willunga? Old Noarlunga?, Maslin Beach? etc, NO. I am well aware of the housing crisis issue, council need to share the load with these horrid developments and put them everywhere not just take over Christies Beach.
