    I was led to believe that this property could only be subdivided into 8 to 10 lots due to the vast amount of trees that the Georges River Council would not allow to be removed.
    It was on this basis that the purchase price of the property was lowered to $8.8 million (from the original $25 million it was listed at).
    I would like to know if this proposed 31 lot subdivision will be approved, because if it is then my family and I have been severely duped.

    Its extremely disappointing that yet again Georges River Council is considering putting profit ahead of its residents and the environment. Residents will be calling for a complete and transparent report as to the impact on the environment as well as any connections to current councillors.

    Hi GRC, I live next to this site and have not been notified of any environmental impact study on this site. I am aware that the buildings proposed will destroy important aboriginal cultural sites. What are you doing to ensure the residents and local indigenous population have a say in this development?

    Hello GRC, my home is behind this proposed development and I have not seen any reports associated with the impact study of the local native birds and wildlife comprising of 16 different species of frogs, 32 different species of reptiles, 180 species of birds and 20 species of mammals.
    At least 20 fauna species are listed as threatened under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 in this region, how are we going to protect the native wildlife with a 31 lot development.

    An appalling over development of a fragile area, the removal of trees at a time when climate change is supposedly on all Governments agendas, the destruction of the habitat of wildlife and flora several of which are endangered. Where is an expert opinion of the water issue and the potential for a large amount of polluted water to be discharged into the river untreated taking with it no doubt waste and detritus.? Sewerage and drainage overload, run off from 31 properties into the river. Foreshore protection? Aboriginal heritage? Not to mention Lugarno is a Peninsula in a bushfire zone with one road in and out, we don’t need any more development south of the Lugarno shopping village to complicate escape during a bushfire.

    It is absolutely appaling what is proposed here. This is wrong in so many ways. If this goes through as proposed we will assume that some dodgy deals/'political donations' took place. This is rarity in overdeveloped Sydney and it should be preserved best to the Councils ability. The Council should step back, think outside the box and listen to the Community. Appart from greedy developer nobody else wants this to go ahead. Nobody.

    I totally object to this development of 80 Boronia Parade Lugarno which includes the destruction of over 200 trees. This is a time after the loss of a huge amount of natural bushland from fires destroying our natural fauna. Man made destruction proposed should not only catch the attention of locals in this LGA but also other similar LGA. It will also raise the attention of media overseas who feel for our losses through bush fire and to let this progress would make Australia and GRC a laughing stock. This is the time for our Council and Councillors to step up to the mark and stop the destruction.

    I want to register my strong objection to the Development Application (DA 2021/0181 - 80 Boronia Pde Lugarno) currently under consideration by Georges River Council. This application proposes 31 residential blocks to be built on 'Glenlee' Lugarno Farm. The Development Application has no consideration for the heritage and environmental value of the site.
    The site is has been in in the hands of one family for more than a century and has been preserved almost intact. The site is associated with early settler families and has been listed by the National Trust for its historical significance. The National Trust also noted that presence of rare Aboriginal rock engravings on the property.
    The site has significant environmental value and has a large area of remnant native vegetation including mature Smooth-barked Apple-Blackbutt-Red Bloodwood open forest, which also includes Grey Gum and Sydney Peppermint. A number of these eucalypts are very large with very large crowns and would provide significant resources of nectar, foliage, seed and insects for native birds and mammals, including threatened species.
    The site is on the shores of the Georges River directly opposite Oatley bush park and is immediately adjacent to mangrove forest and intertidal mudflats. These environments provide valuable habitat for migratory and threatened shorebirds.
    I request that Georges River Council act to preserve the heritage and environmental value of this site for the communities of the Georges River. The land should be acquired by Council for inclusion in the Heinrich Reserve along with the restoration of native vegetation and protection of features of Aboriginal and European cultural heritage. Council could also give consideration to enabling a river foreshore walkway to allow community access to this valuable and increasingly rare threatened habitat.

    I wish to register a strong objection to this development application.

    It is unreasonable and unacceptable to remove 226 trees from this site leading to the unnecessary loss of so much flora and fauna.

    There is no provision for a reserve to allow public access to the foreshore, which I understand was a requirement in previous subdivision applications for this property and a condition of the approval for the subdivision of the adjacent Bayside Drive development many years ago.

    The current development application has the potential to create a 500% increase in vehicle traffic through Bayside Drive and then through Jacaranda Avenue which is only 5.45 metres wide and was obviously designed to service only the 11 houses in Bayside Drive and was never intended to cater for a possible additional 57 houses including the existing 41 houses currently present in Boronia Parade South - numbers 1 to 48. It is not possible to widen Jacaranda Avenue.
    Apart from the inconvenience and loss of amenity to Bayside Drive residents and Woodcliff Parade residents the development would cause, it would be a 'disaster waiting to happen' in the event of an emergency such as a bushfire.

    Whilst our elected councillors claim to have no input to this decision, I am sure along with support from our State and Federal representatives, there must be a way forward to save this unique large parcel of Lugarno bushland from destruction.

    I object strongly to the current DA for 80 Boronia Pde, Lugarno as this proposal does not seem to be consistent at all with the current LEP (Local Environmental Plan) for the Lugarno area and the lot itself is representative of local history going back to indigenous occupation. This will be lost if this proposal goes ahead.
    That current LEP 2012 states that the aims are to conserve, protect and enhance the environmental heritage, cultural heritage and aesthetic character of the area and protect and enhance areas of remnant bushland, natural watercourses, wetlands and riparian habitats. the approval of this subdivision and the destruction of so many significant trees is in complete contradiction to the LEP.
    The LEP also aims to ensure development embraces principles of ecologically sustainable development - the proposed subdivision does nothing of the sort it seems.
    The loss of flora and fauna, indigenous heritage, and amenity of the area with this overdevelopment is far from ecologically sound.
    The waterfront should be available for public access and link in to adjacent park lands. As a nearby resident it has been disconcerting to constantly hear the sounds of chain saws in the area as local trees are felled continuously. The remaining tree cover is vitally important for the local fauna including Powerful Owls, various bat species, a myriad of bird species in the area as well as mammals and reptiles. The thought of losing more tree cover is disturbing given the enormous increases in housing in the general area.
    We can't simply keep chopping everything down because so many other locations have already suffered that fate. Is this a race to the bottom??
    Climate change factors should also be considered as part of the decision making given the number of trees to be felled and the significant loss of tree cover and fauna habitat if approved.

This will be lost if this proposal goes ahead. GRC you should all resign over this development and lack of fightback from your offices. What needs to happen to make your office accountable for lack of funding towards preserving what is already in our backyard. Enough destruction in this area for the sake for $$$$.

    It's disgusting to see the amount of destruction this development will cause and Council sitting on its hand while the destruction occurs. This site should be preserved for its cultural heritage as well as the ecology significance.

    We already have a significant DA pass for units and retail outlets, surely we don't need to become like a concrete jungle that Peakhurst has become with all the units!

    Shame.

    I'm a local builder and have dealt many of times with George river council.
    What I've found over many years that there are rules for one and rules for them them in favor.
    Keeping this short.. come on council give us locals a break and stop this over development, no one wants this you guys want this only to line your pockets.
    Give us small community a break and stop this over development.
    We love Lugarno and it's heritage so leave it alone guys.

    I strongly object to the current DA for 80 Boronia Pde, Lugarno as this proposal appears inconsistent with current Local Environmental Plan for the Lugarno area. This area should be preserved for its important environmental and historical/heritage value for the benefit of all Sydney siders and future generations.

    The purchase price of the property seems very low for the development that has been proposed. This reeks of either an aggressive tactic to get more lots in, or just blatant corruption. A development of this size and value with zero considerations to giving any land or amenity back to the residents is honestly disgusting.

    I see this a great opportunity for GRC, Lugarno and the community and developer.
    we need a balance between development, conservation and future needs.
    1. Retain and restore some of the buildings and boat sheds as community centres, cafes and art-centre. This will bring in employment, access and vibrancy to to the broader community. 2. Look to set aside green space, especially the more mature trees or those closer to the shoreline. 3. Design roads and infrastructure around the critical sections. Wildlife adapts very quickly, and rather than wholesale clearing, use a more logical approach. 4. Reduce the 31 new plots to say 20 instead. By working through a compromise you'll have ongoing income to GRC, local employment, new residences and a whole new area for all people to enjoy with parks, walkways, cafes and community centres. This could be a great template for GRC to use where conservation and development can be balanced.

    Glenlee is back on the market (March 2022). This beautiful natural property with extensive native bushland, trees, aboriginal heritage artifacts, numerous native birds and animals is again for sale.
    There is a heritage order on the property but that fact has not been listed in the brochure detailing the property nor has the fact that a vast number of local residents are against this sale and wish that the Local, State or Federal Government would purchase it with the object of preservation. This is the last remaining area showing our heritage existing in the Georges River area.

    It is so disappointing to note that neither the State or the Federal govt has stepped in to buy back the land and give it to the community in the form of green access and/or development in keeping with its environmental and cultural significance. Govt seems not to have a problem resuming land or homes when it need to build a tunnel or a carpark!!!!
    Perhaps the local members, both State and Federal need to step up their campaign
