26 Simpson Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026

Remove one (1) Norfolk Island Pine from rear boundary and replace with one (1) local native tree. Most of the tree’s root system is covered by grass, allowing the roots to grow without restriction, damaging the boundary fence and the neighbouring property’s rear yard, where half the canopy is overhanging – obstructing light and stunting plant and grass growth. To repair the rear yard would require the pruning out of the roots and removal of the overhanging branches, however, it is highly unlikely that root pruning at proximity to the trunk can be successfully conducted without compromising the tree’s anchorage - this would increase the risk of failure during strong winds.

This is heart breaking. It is one of the last tall mature trees in this street. I see many flocks of lorikeets using this tree along with the last possums in the area . The kookaburras live in it, along with magpies and kurrawongs. If the owners are saying it is interfering with the building, work with the tree, and cut the root system or branches. But Keep This Tree.

Why does this mature tree need to be removed? It provides native habitat and needs to be retained as per previous comments . Do not approve this DA

    Hello,
The tree is not located near the building on 26 Simpson Street - so it is unclear why this tree needs to be removed? This is the 2nd application by 26 Simpson Street to remove all the mature trees from their back garden. If there is a genuine and valid reason for removing these mature trees then the Council should require replacement trees. Thank you.

This looks like a healthy tree of importance to the neighborhood and much wildlife. I can’t imagine why it’s removal should be approved. I also hope the council takes care to see it isn’t mysteriously poisoned if this application fails, as it should.
