Surely there are enough fuel stations on Brighton Road already?
They're a hazard to the Community, and slow down traffic during peak hours.
We need more 'nice' residential buildings.
    Affordable living for young families.

Lynda is right, I thought the same upon reading this - there are enough fuel stations in the area, I can only think money talks.

If you put a pin where this fuel station will be, including this - they'll be 6 (six) within 3 minutes of each other. OTR Glenelg East, Caltex Somerton, OTR Glengowrie, Caltex N.Brighton, OTR Brighton. It takes just 4 minutes from the most northern station at Glenelg East to the most southern station at Brighton. Logic would say 2 or 3 would be enough, but 6? That suggest something else.

The problems multiple stations cause surely outweights the benefits of 1 cents cheaper fuel. They include - drivers almost stopping prior to entry, older/low profile cars navigating the dreadful entry dip/humps, and just all round congestion on a busy road is asking for more delays, accidents & complaints.

    "Common sense isn't common".

PS: I will fake my details below as the council have the power to do silly things, as you've seen here with this application.

This particular parcel of land was previously being held for the development of a power substation. I would much rather have a petrol station with a shop. Please consider the fact that many older people still reside east of Brighton Rd, who would appreciate not having to cross this overly busy road for basic supplies like bread, milk, newspapers etc. Yes, there are pedestrian lights nearby but they take so long to stop the traffic that many people ignore them and take chances dodging through cars and causing traffic hazards. Also the dust caused by south westerly winds that blow across from this vacant lot is awful. We have lived in the adjoining side street since 1995 and I am looking forward to respite from the dust and traffic noise, which this development will help provide a barrier. Glad to see some development finally happening on this site.

The lights taking too long is the reason to approve this... more like someone without self discipline or patience for the lights is your reason, let’s be honest.

Just because a power station was there before, which I disagree with too, doesn’t make any other applications acceptable.

If a small convenience store is required, so be it. But a petrol station is not needed. This creates more traffic built up, more accidents than a traffic light, and they won’t tell you what the gases causes to the ground & area.

And your dust point, although sounds like straws & clutching, could be sorted with any other reasonable development to the land. If it’s a bigger issue, mention this to the council, or buy the land and sort yourself. The noise - a human will not notice the difference in decibels by erecting a service station. Again, any reasonable building would do the same.

I’m not saying don’t develop the land. I’m saying a petrol station is not needed, overkill & will I’m smell something else here... and it’s not more gas fumes.

There is not a need for another petrol outlet in the area. This is a residential area and there is a servo opposite and 3 more within 3 minutes drive

Good quality houses not 24 hour petrol and junk food Litter noise hoons at midnight

Can’t wait for this to be built. Perfect side of the road for me so I don’t have to go to OTR on diagonal and oaklands anymore. Bring it on!
