I oppose this project as it is toxic for our health and not to mention harmful for our environment. There has to be another option that is cost effective but at the same time not detrimental to us or the environment.

    Dear Council,

I wish to register a complaint against proposed Application No. P22489 by ENRGX PTY LTD for “Use and Development of a Waste to Energy Facility”. This facility may help with our current recycling crisis but this idea has some very serious implications.

Firstly, burning our waste to produce energy is a very bad idea as it does nothing to address the core problem of over-consumerism and waste generation by Australians. In fact, once this plant is in operation, it will actually create a DEMAND for more waste. This is a very bad idea. Council should be encouraging buying, using and consuming less, not more! In addition, companies such as these will put pressure on your and the community to REMOVE their recycling systems so that they can receive and incinerate the unsorted waste and sell it back to us as energy! This is undoing all of the hard work that communities and Councils have done over the past three or more decades.

Secondly, burning waste may create energy as a byproduct but it also creates epic level emissions and toxins, which will be spewed into our atmosphere - this will be the air that we all breathe and I object to this pollution being sanction by Council. In addition it will add a nasty haze to our town that we definitely do not need. After that is potential acid rain and other nasties just like in Beijing and other big cities.

Thirdly, this proposal takes energy away from real and better efforts to recycle, such as by creating products in demand that do not create as many emissions, or that can serve the community better, such a recycled playground equipment, household products, road surfacing and the like. These are efforts that Council has already put its support behind. By approving this application you are undoing all of your hard work by supporting other worthwhile environmental causes. It also ruins efforts to create cleaner and better forms of energy such as wind, hydro and geothermal power.

As I believe that ENRGX PTY LTD is proposing this plant for pure profit at the cost of our community health, lifestyle and environment, I wish to register my strong objection to this application.

    Kind regards

    Katherine Lawford

Why are you considering putting this so close to town? Surely it can go somewhere away from where people live and work. Hume has enough waste facilities already. We don’t want this. Please reconsider.

  5. Caroline Ewans commented

I work close by to SKM & Bradbury and had to smell the stench of several disasterous fires near my workplace in the City of Hume. That was bad enough! I certainly DO NOT want any type of similar facility near my home in Craigieburn. These types of so called "recycling" methods should be banned. Please use any public money to set up proper recycling facilities and actually recycle waste into something useful!

Dear council. I strongly object to toxins which will be spewed into our atmosphere -Why would OUR council agree to the residents breathing in these harmful toxins?. Where is the 'country living' we were promised 45 years ago when I moved here? This is an outrage and one has to wonder what the objective could be. I don't want to be forced to wear a mask when trying to enjoy my garden, shopping or taking the dog for a walk. Council needs to use OUR money to ensure we all have quality of life which is what we expected when we took up residence in this township. Council claims to be environmentally friendly but this is far from any kind of friendly .

I strongly oppose this development. I believe it is far too close to residential areas of Craigieburn/Mickleham areas, too close to schools and day care centres on the Eastern side of Craigieburn.
I am concerned if this was to go ahead it would have a detrimental impact on the cleanliness of the air in our suburb, affect the health of residents and have an impact on property prices in the area. Please reconsider approving this facility!!!

"Waste to Energy" is nothing but a modern set of buzzwords to mean "Incinerate everything".

As a society, we stopped burning waste due to the recognition of pollution, chemical and environmental damage caused by this process.

A facility of this type is not within expectations of community standards, nor does it pass the pub test when raised with the locals in the surrounding areas of this proposed facility.

I object to this application in the strongest possible terms that I am willing to put on a public document.

    Dear Council.
I refer to the enrgx (boss corporation) application for a waste incineration facility on amaroo road.

I object to the application being approved. I live close to the proposed site. Incinerators threaten peoples health and produce climate pollution.

Thousands of tonnes of toxic waste will be processed through the facility emitting gas higher than coal and oil stations. We dont and neither do our children deserve to live within proximity to such.
As a health professional it is well documented by many in corporations across the world of the concern of the Pollutants such as nitrogen oxide, sulfar, mercury, lead and furans are emitted at extreme levels. The evidence around this are known affects such as increased cancers, respiratory conditions, cardiac disease and developmental and neurological disorders.

In a huge growth corridor of Melbourne and as the local council you must consider the possibility of residents being affected by this and the legalities around them. There are better ways to process waste in our country, such as the well known zero waste solutions propsed to govt Our community deserves the right to a clean environment without risk to health.

    Dear Council,

This letter refers to the enrgx application for a waste incineration in Amaroo Road, Craigieburn.

Surely there are other affective ways to deal with the recycling issue in Victoria?
Perhaps by-products can be created and used instead for community equipment, road surfacing, playground benefits?

We have seen first hand what happens when recycling products catch fire in our own community already and how people are are risk of serious respiratory problems due to the pollution created.

I do not want a plant like this is our community.

Please find a better way to recycle and provide benefits for our community, NOT health issues which may also impact on our already congested hospital systems.

I strongly object to this proposal.

Burning waste is by far the most polluting way of both waste disposal and power generation.
How could Hume council allow such a facility, in an area that has had so many issues with waste facilities in it's recent past.
This is right next to homes, schools, preschool and childcare, retail and farms. This will have such a negative impact on not only people's health, but the health of our pets, livestock, fauna and flora.
The area is surrounded by hills and mountains, there is nowhere for this pollution to go, other than sit over our community.
The health problems caused by this type of pollution are proven and we'll documented.

  26. Brett K commented

    To Hume council

This is unacceptable to be building this facility for the purpose of disposing of waste material that will create a harmful effect on the surrounding environment and also potentially health risks to the residents in the area. With the spin that it is going to create 'Energy/Power'

What about implementing solar panels on 'All' council building to start with and other major strategic building and or shopping centers to create more 'energy/power'

Looks like just another sell out of the environment and peoples health over financial greed.

  27. Leo Georges commented

    Dear Council,

This facility is a terrible idea. It definitely isn’t a great response to our recycling problem and will create so much air pollution that our community will be breathing. Thinking about our children and their childrens future we need to find better solutions.

I'll bet our rates will not decrease as a result! Who would honestly want to live near that or subject our Families to that!!! When will Council's do the right thing for the Rate Payers who pay their wages! Therefore I wish to register my strong OBJECTION to this application.

    Dear Council members

Please do not let this application progress because this company has money to influence it. This is an absolutely HUGE issue to be putting right next to a suburban area.

The issues, including air pollution, effects on global warming etc. Are already mentioned above, so rather than reiterate them I'd like to add my name to the list of people who would like to see this application terminated.
Your job is to represent your community, allowing this to happen will be against your community wishes, to the detriment of the community you represent and purely self serving to the big greedy businesses that don't need any more exemptions from the right way to do things.

Please choose the thousands over the one or two rich individuals

  49. Stephanie Browitt commented

A recycling plant should not be placed in an inner suburb, especially one of such a large community size. We do not want to breathe in smoke and have more pollution then needed. This project is a disgrace and many people including myself DO NOT APPROVE of this AT ALL! Air pollution is a huge problem and this just adds to it. People suffer from asmtha but also children should not have to be breathing this rubbish in.

Burning waste for energy will emit toxins which will be breathed in by anyone in the area. I object to this pollution being sanctioned by Council, particularly when studies reveal that long term exposure to these toxins lead to serious health complications.

Secondly, burning waste to produce energy does nothing to address the core problem of excessive waste production. In fact, once this plant is in operation, it will create a demand for waste instead of encouraging a decrease.

There are far more responsible responses to the waste crisis that could be auctioned by Council:
    - support of community recycling initiatives
    - funding for community education programs related to responsible recycling
    - financial incentives for residents to live sustainably
    - financial incentives for local businesses to practice sustainably
    - lobby of government to replace plastic packaging with sustainable alternatives

The ENRGX PTY LTD plant endangers our community health, lifestyle and environment. I urge you to prioritize the wellbeing of Hume residents and reject this proposal.

    Kind regards,

    Maria Alberto

  53. Sarah Smith commented

I vehemently object to this proposal. The emissions may be “well within acceptable limits” however there will still be emissions that will affect the community.
I’m concerned about the proximity to Hume Grammar, where my children attend, being in the direct firing line of these emissions when weather conditions dictate.
This facility is simply too close to a populated residential area. Especially considering the unpredictable nature of weather you simply can’t guarantee that the community will not be negatively affected in any way.

  54. Jana commented

We - me and my husband are strongly against this proposal. We do not believe that emission will be as promised - never is. This is great concern for every resident in the area especially children. It is too close to populated residential area!

  55. Surbhi commented

There are two issues with this proposal, which is why I strongly object it.
Firstly, it is very near to the town and can cause major health problems in near future. Such facilities are a ticking bomb for fire and chemical hazards. This shouldn’t be built at the proposed sites. There are studies which directly link such facilities to carcinogenic particles being passed into the underground water system, creeks and can also damage wild life in the surroundings.
Secondly, why create such a facility anyway? Why not create a recycling facility which is eco friendly, does not emit hazardous smoke/chemicals? The whole world is moving towards moving away from things which could worsen the climate crisis. We should do our bit to do things in an environment friendly way.
Thanks but this doesn’t seem to be a right way to go!

  56. Kathryn Boyle commented

I strongly oppose this project. This facility too close to homes. This project my create more energy but also more pollution. The northern suburbs have been blanketed in toxic fumes from numerous factory fires which has impacted the health of the community. We don’t need more hazardous smoke in our air increasing our health risk of disease.

In addition, companies such as these will put pressure on you and the community to REMOVE their recycling systems so that they can receive and incinerate the unsorted waste and sell it back to us as energy!

    Mayra Lara

I object to this plan whole heartedly. This area is very close to where 55,000 residents live. Why don’t you put this plant in an area that has no residents living there. We do not want to have this toxic plant in our area.

  59. Ian Payne commented

As a resident of Hume I am disgusted.
    1. This will create massive pollution in Craigieburn and a number of nearby suburbs.
    2. It is a poor attempt at achieving anything with any environmental benefit, as the reduction in landfill will not compensate for the amount of unknown pollutants to be produced.
    3. The fires in recent years in other suburbs within Hume should have given you plenty of warning about the dangers of a recycling facility going haywire, and even an operator that appears willing to do the right thing can turn out to be irresponsible.
    4. This is not a genuine to create renewable energy that can compare favourably with existing forms of renewable energy such as solar..
    5. Other forms of treatment of recyclable materials would be far more effective. For example the worst contaminant is broken glass. A bottle recycling system is already proven interstate and this should be pursued in Victoria. A specific glass recycling depot would be used greatly. paper and cardboard is already recycled most effectively and more depots should be created. Plastic inclusion in road surfacing materials is already being tested. Other plastic recycling facilities produce items such as park benches that are a success.
    6. The reputation of Craigieburn as a suburb will be forever besmirched as a destination for those looking to move here. Much has been done to generate a great range of infrastructure, shopping and sporting features in Craigieburn and all that effort will be clouded.

My family and I and lived just off amaroo road for 15yrs. We OPPOSE this idea of a toxic plant!
We have watched the area flourish with natural grasses, streams and waterways being nurtured and have remained in craigieburn enjoying the beauty of our environment.
We know what Hume city councils profit was last year. There’s no need for this ‘business venture’.

  61. Lisa Milich commented

This type of facility should be in an industrial area not in an area so close to our community and schools. Apart from being damaging to our environment it will clearly damage our health. This pollution will be dragged into our homes through our air conditioning so there is no escape. Please put the people in our community in front of $$$$$$.

  62. Melina Leo commented

Please note my objection to the waste incineration facility being built in Craigieburn, the area has been developed significantly over the last 30 years, affordability bringing many young families. The toxic emissions and microscopic particles this plant will emit into the atmosphere will pose a massive risk to community health and should there be any problems with the plant, there will also be environmental concerns with its proximity to Merri Creek.
We will no doubt be reassured that all these concerns will be addressed, like the sewerage treatment plant recently built, that I smell everyday driving on the Hume Freeway.
Also some years ago when the Hume Freeway was built there was a change in the Freeway route due to the risk to the Growling frog, this plant poses a far greater risk.

The council are representative of our community and we ask that you support your residents in our objection of the development of an incineration plant.

  63. Imran Hassan commented

I oppose this project as it is harmful for health and so close to the community of Craigieburn even communities on Craigieburn east Road and Donnybrook Road. The property prices are good in this area because of good infrastructure but once this project gets started suddenly there will be a big declined in property market, as people start moving out and no new families will consider to live here. We are renting at the moment and was planning to buy a land here to build our dream home but now we have paused our plan untill this issue gets resolve. If its still happening will leave us an option to move from here. Our humble request is that please reconsider its location which should be far from all communities. Many thanks.

This is right near our house where I have 3 children under the age of 10 who spend most of their time outside playing with balls in the fresh air. I don't want to have to sell my house and move!! This absolutely devastates me! Please, please do not allow this to happen :(

  65. Jessica Bryceson commented

Can I ask why you are putting this one of the biggest growth suburbs in Melbourne? Have you considered the people you will be affecting? There surely has to be another site away from residential areas for this project.
I strongly object placing this at 65 amaroo road. Ask yourselves this question would you want to live near it?

I would like to express as a member of the community that the health and well-being of my son, family , friends , and fellow community members would be put in jeopardy if this plan goes ahead. Research has proven that plants such as these can have long term health side effects and that is extremely concerning.
The community cannot support something of this nature when our fauna and flora are at risk , animals are at risk , and not to mention our roads are congested enough as is , we don’t need the extra overloaded trucks hauling the streets.

I am very much against any proposed waste processing plant located in Craigieburn especially so close to heavily populated areas.

This should be fine further out of populated areas if at all.

  69. Ann-Minetta Williams commented

I wish to register a complaint against proposed Application No. P22489 by ENRGX PTY LTD for “Use and Development of a Waste to Energy Facility”.

This proposed facility is looking at taking up to 500,000 tonnes of waste per year, that means it could be generating up to 100,000 tonnes of hazardous toxic waste in the form of bottom ash and fly ash. This hazardous toxic waste will need to be disposed of at a specialised site. In Victoria we only have one such site - Lyndhurst and that is due to be closed in the near future as it is already near capacity. As much as we are landfilling some waste at present, it has nowhere near the toxicity of the waste generated by these facilities. How many hazardous, toxic waste sites will need to be created to dispose of this created waste?

They also generate airborne emissions and particulates, the toxicity of which is cumulative. So the longer the site operates, the more poison they emit and the more it builds up in our environment. Seriously affecting individual health and our environment.

Given the capacity of this site, it could potentially be taking up to 1984.13 tonnes per day in waste. This will have mean a serious increase to the number of trucks on the Hume Highway, driving within metres of houses, places of worship, businesses and public transport facilities, by 220 to 284 per working day. This will have a considerable impact on the already congested and strained road infrastructure in this area.

I am also concerned that the planning application was lodged on the 6 September 2019 and then Councillor Jack Medcraft was promoting perceived 'benefits' to such a facility in the Northern Leader newspaper on the 9 September 2019. Without disclosing that a planning application had been lodged and was awaiting council approval. Possibly distorting the public understanding, not giving all the relevant information and lacking scientific data and support.

The newspaper article stated Enrgx Pty Ltd was investing $450 million in the project yet the planning application is for $9 million.

Waste to energy is obviously a quick and dirty fix to our current recycling crisis. Proper recycling programs and true green energy options are much less costly, more cost effective, better for and can even improve the environment and health of our community and provide much more job opportunities.

A waste to energy and sorting facility does not address the issues of reducing waste and the lack of recycling facilities and capacity. If anything it will demand a sustainable feedstock to maintain it's profits and returns. Potentially redirecting compostable and recyclable materials to incineration.

I strongly object to this planning application and am seriously angry at the lack of communication from Hume City Council.

  70. S Weston commented

I strongly object to the building of this facility. I both live and work within 1km of the proposed location and feel that if this was to go ahead it would be detrimental to mine and my families health.

I vehemently object to the proposed Application No. P22489 by ENRGX PTY LTD for “Use and Development of a Waste to Energy Facility” at Amaroo Road, Craigieburn.

This is a ludicrous and environmentally-flawed proposal, which not only has the potential to, but WILL adversely impact on the health of the tens of thousands of people living within close proximity of this site.

The fact this site is even in contention beggars belief given its location near homes, businesses, and multiple educational settings including primary and early childcare facilities.

If Hume City Council (as well as the State Government at large, and the EPA, which must prove itself worthy of its title) actually cares about the health and safety of residents, local wildlife, and the environment generally, it will NOT support this - literally - rubbish proposal.

  72. Manda commented

Surely Campbellfeild fires havent proved that this should not be going anywhere with in a radius of house's factories or anything structural for that matter or living. They should consider people before money. How would the council like if they lived or worked within a short distance of this plant and they became affected bu toxins? Just proves that people have never and will never be a priority to all those involved within government.

In addition to all the potential health issues that this will cause, I'd like to understand how this tender was awarded to Enrgx given this company only registered their ABN on July 1 2019.

    - What track record do they have in this field given they've only been in existence for 2 months prior to having been awarded the contract?
    - What due diligence has been undertaken by council to ensure that not only can they successfully run this operation, but how will they ensure the safety of Hume residents, workers and businesses? Have you forgotten SKM?
    - Who are Enrgx? They don't appear to have a website which in this day and age is unfathomable.
    - Why were they awarded the contract ahead of other companies?
    - Who else submitted a tender?

As councillors, you're obliged to keep the community (who you serve, let's not forget) informed, so it's staggering that there's been very little information provided to this point.

Quite clearly this is something that's not wanted in Hume so close to schools, housing and businesses by residents and companies who are aware of this ill-conceived venture. Do the right (and logical) thing and shelve this idea.

despite any amount of filtres or safety nets, such an obsolete form of energy and waste management, is dangerous to the population of a large growing city. Fine particles of pollution are transported and spread easily and become a threat to not only asthmatics, people with respiratory diseases but also any healthy person breathing in these carcinogens.

How a modern country like australia is planning an old form of energy and waste management when even developing countries are moving away from it, is such a horrible surprise

Are we the new China? HOW was this idea smart in any way shape or form?

We live in such a high class country with access to absolutely anything, this is not the solution to reducing the amounts of waste humans produce as a result of poor waste management in households across the country.

    Dear Council,
I am astounded at the lack of community consultation surrounding this issue, the only reason that I can think of is that Council and Vic Govt know that the residents of Craigieburn and surrounding areas will vehemently oppose this idea, what is going on behind the scenes? What benefit to council is it? To place this within 1km of businesses and residences is totally unacceptable in today's climate of increasing waste and pollution, this will effect people's health and place a burden on our now overwhelmed public hospital system, it will decrease our property value and as others have indicated this is totally opposite to Council's vision statement and cannot be allowed. What does the EPA have to say on this issue?

  113. Christine Sperling commented

    Christine Sperling

    To the City Council,

We wish to log an objection to the proposed Toxic waste Incinerator in Craigieburn. This is a family area, many people have purchased here for the atmosphere and environment. Why establish a massive residential area and then place a toxic waste area close to such an area? This makes no sense at all. This will drive people away from Craigieburn and many businesses will suffer financially along with the destruction of our air quality and the environment.

Please cease any further development of this proposed plan.

I get that waste needs to go somewhere, but shouldn't that somewhere be far away from people, far away from my favourite takeaway place (Craigieburn Indian FYI) and not in a very quickly growing suburb? I strongly urge you to reconsider this plan. Thanks, Bronwyn.

  122. Rowena Sheppard commented

I strongly oppose this application. I oppose both the location and actually utilising waste to energy at all.

One has to question whether government at any level is paying attention or listening to the people or scientists.

Burning anything for energy is no longer acceptable but to put a waste burning in a residential area is an absolute disgrace and Councillors should hang their heads in shame for forcing this significant health hazard on their community.

I will be taking this up with Greens and Federal rep.

Thankfully, I rent so if if this goes ahead I am going to move from Craigieburn.

Council, as a resident very close to the proposed sight, I deplore any decision that would see an unsightly and unnecessary project literally a stones throw from the house I share with my young family. Please consider moving this to an area further from residential development

  124. Theresa Slater commented

Council, please look at moving this project to a non residential area as placing it in Craigieburn close to families ( in particular my family) is not a smart idea. It places the lives of all residents including my husband, my son and myself in in great danger. It also does not help the air quality and water in the area let alone the elderly and ill people around Craigieburn. Burning anything for energy is no longer climate effective and would do more damage in the long run. Please reconsider this proposal

I strongly oppose this application, the proposed site is way to close to residential homes. I live in the estate opposite Bunnings and on the weekends I can smell their sausages cooking with a east wind. With this in mind I find it deeply disturbing that such a plant could be producing toxic and smelly exhaust fumes, which can spread all across Craigieburn. The other factor that needs to be considered is an accidental fire of the materials, which would be disastrous. I hope common sense applies with this application, there are plenty of options a lot further away.

  130. Pradeep Panesar commented

I oppose the appliction for this application to go further first and last thing we do not want this as it is very toxic for our health and enviorment. It's a big NO. I live near Mt. Ridley Road and fumes from this plant will have a adverse effect on our health and future generation

  131. Antoni Bogoevski commented

I strongly oppose the construction of this toxic incinerator so near my home. I can literally see the proposed site this is being planned for from my house on Mount Ridley where my children live and would be exposed to the untold quantities of toxic chemicals and fumes.

I understand the need to manage the waste problem that has been created however it seems well beyond logical reason to be building such a facility so close to a residential area.

If not for health, environmental and compassionate reasons please consider the financial implications for this. Hume City Council and the Victorian State Government could be setting themselves up for open ended class action litigation due to recklessly endangering the well-being of it's residents, not to mention the severe devaluation of our properties.

This will endanger the lives of over 50,000 Craigieburn residents, 10,000 and growing Wollert residents and several thousand residents in other surrounding suburbs.

When considering the approval of this facility ask yourselves this:
Would you want your children living, playing and going to school so close to this type of facility?
Would you want to be exposed to toxic fumes all day in your home, your sanctuary?
Would you want the value of your home eroded away if something like this was built only 400 meters from your house?

I believe you would be hard pressed to find a single person that would answer yes to those questions.

Reject the application for this facility outright and perhaps consider how this application was even brought to table in the first place as it seems that no legitimate objective consultation was undertaken.

I wish to register a complaint against proposed Application No. P22489 by ENRGX PTY LTD for “Use and Development of a Waste to Energy Facility”.

HUME COUNCIL, WHY HAVE YOU NOT ADVERTISED THIS FOR COMMUNITY CONSULTATION? Found a loop hole by way of accepting the categorisation of this proposal as part of your employment plan hey. Obviously you definitively know that residents will object, as we are doing now! An extremely good way to lose the trust and therefore votes of Hume residents. I ask you if accepting and considering Enegx's proposal will somehow be mutually beneficial for you? It seems obvious that financial profits are most important to the councillors at Hume. Seemingly, harming the health of our children, residents, waterways, flora, fauna, and environment holds no weight to Hume especially given this application was not advertised to the community.

The health of residents and our environment will suffer, and you will see an increase in people suffering from respiratory and other medical conditions. Obviously this unethical proposition, in your eyes, is seen as beneficial for Hume and surrounding areas in terms of employment opportunities and financial stimulus. Is this why it has been proposed by Energx as such, and accepted by Hume Council as being categorised under the Craigieburn North Employment Area Precinct Structure Plan.

It's interesting, yet not comprehensible, how businesses only interested in profiting millions of dollars from making people sick, class their proposal as employment opportunities. All part of the bigger picture for Hume accepting and considering this proposal isn't it - a financial stimulus that will create employment, not only at Energx, but more so on the backs of residents health as medical, health, and other general services, businesses and infrastructure will be needed to accomodate the growing rate of foreseeable increases in the rates of sick people (oh & of course employment opportunities), and services for such. I'm sure then, in true political fashion, if Hume council votes yes for this, Hume will spin this as financial and community growth - all the while people suffer and endure illness directly correlated to Hume council and Energx. Knowingly allowing toxic fumes that create acute and chronic medical conditions to be pumped into areas of such close proximity to peoples homes, children's schools, and places of employment is surely a litigation minefield in the making.

Residents do not want this to happen in their backyards! Energx will not be creating energy or power, that is not possible by burning waste. Energx will however, be creating toxic fumes and major health problems for Hume residents and neighbouring municipalities. They will also be sure to consume exorbitant amounts of energy, power, and resources from Hume instead. If this goes ahead l will be moving far away from Hume.

Councillors l do hope you have a conscience, and therefore put our families health and wellbeing, and our ailing environment first.

We voted you in, how bout you vote for us by rejecting this application immediately.

  133. Michael Keating commented

    Ludicrous defined.

  134. Paola Chiappinelli commented

    Dear Council,
I oppose the Energx's application to build a waste to energy facility in Craigieburn and I am deeply concerned about its likely impact on air quality and local community's health.
What would be the scale of this facility? What kind of materials is the proposed plant going to burn? Who will monitor the level of toxic emissions in the area and the repercussions on people's wellbeing over the years?

On a larger scale, if we want to address Victoria's waste crisis effectively, I believe that we should consider developing more waste and resource recovery facilities across the state - in accordance with the Statewide Waste and Resource Recovery Infrastructure Plan - rather than building big incinerators in a single area.
Do we know where the ashes generated by all waste to energy plants proposed for Victoria will end up? Toxic ash, for example, must be disposed of in specifically designed hazardous waste landfills. However, at the moment Victoria does not have a sufficient number of those hazardous waste landfills and will need to create more.
So, do we want to find a safe solution to our waste problems or do we want to create more problems?

Please do not go ahead with this project!
Let's set a positive example instead and keep our community safe.

  135. Dawn Gordon commented

Surely the council can find somewhere away from our town, we have young families moving here all the time. No one want to live near a energy waste facility. Seriously Hume lift your game and look after your residents!!

    Hume Council

There is ample land in this state, in which to deal with our ever growing waste. Why would you even consider building something like this in the vicinity of suburbs and communities????? Why would you put this toxic waste in such close proximity to people?????. This is highly unethical.
I highly protest to this project. And to making so many more people sick, hence causing death.

  138. Hariklea Rossis commented

There is enough pollution and waste which is spread all over Craigiburn, Mickleham and surrounding areas. It has become a dumping ground for everyone, one of the reasons being it has become so expensive to go to the waste collection facility in Hume, that people find it easier to just dump in our streets.

It is beyond belief that the council would approve such a facility in the community, without consultation of its residents. Why am I hearing about this from a flyer which was put in my letterbox by other concerned residents. Why has the council not been forthcoming with this information. I find this appalling and totally unacceptable.

I don't want mercury, nitrous and sulphuric oxides, dioxins and furants being spewed into the air for my children to breathe. Furthermore, I don't want the protected flaura and fauna to be disturbed either.

I STRONGLY OBJECT to this project in our area, and ask that you have a really good think about what you will be doing to the residents of Craigiburn and Mickleham in particular.

I with to commend the planning of the Building of the incinerator at the proposed site. People who object to this proposal have obviously not done their homework. This is 2020 and not the dark ages and no one is going to pollute the air. These incinerators nowadays emit clean air, much cleaner than the poison emitted from the cars objectors are driving.
The objections are just knee jerk reactions and people need to do some homework. Go into YouTube and have a look at some of these incinerators. They are ingenious in their concept. Here a just a few.

Please stop playing with peoples health in the name of money.
Hume is already a toxic dumping ground for some unknown reason for so many industries and you just keep adding to this. Do you as our local authority, not care one iota about your rate payers which you seem so keen to want to cause health issues to.
I guarantee other councils would not stand for this but somehow you are entertaining the ideal.

I moved to this area as I am highly allergic and have enjoyed the quality of cleaner air away from the inner suburbs clogged up in soot. Now you propose to contaminate our air quality not with soot but with highly deadly TOXINS. Good on you!

It is about time you learn to listen to your constituents. Please do not allow this to happen. This should be located at a far greater distance to homes and built up areas than is proposed. At least 50+ km from Melbourne as these toxins do travel with wind directions. Just remember what the fires did in our local area recently when those dumps caught fire. Now you propose to do this on a daily basis.

NO, NO, NO to this waste disposal site. This will reflect in future on you and our power to vote. Remember, we vote you in and can vote you out.
This will not end here. Its about time we get our money's worth on our over inflated rates and listen to us and what we want for our area.
This will greatly effect our property prices and turn us into a dump site suburb and I live at the top end of Mt Ridley and the last thing I want to see is smoke plumes.

Why don't they build this in the CEO's electorate? Its always good to dump this on those areas where people are of lesser status tend to reside and hope their ignorance will get this through. And by this I feel you as our council look down towards us and think we are of no use and expendable. The shame of this, even for you to contemplate the idea.

    NO!

Hume City Council, I thought you were a progressive council. A council who put its families and rate payers first; a council who were forward thinking in their views on the environment and who cared about the future and what that looked like for the families, residents and children of Hume. Now is the perfect opportunity to take a stand and say no! We don't want your toxicity and pollution. That isn't what we represent and we will not put our residents' health and wellbeing at risk. The thought of my students living so close to something polluting the air they breathe, something council has said yes to and put $$$ before these childrens' health is unfathomable. Please do not approve this application.

Please we don’t want this in Hume
We don’t want to breath in this air
We don’t want our kids to breath in this air
We don’t want our pets to breath in this air
We don’t want this pollution on our clothes when we hang them on the line
    It will devalue our houses
    It will make us sick
    We don’t want this.. please

I wish to register a complaint against proposed Application No. P22489 by ENRGX PTY LTD for “Use and Development of a Waste to Energy Facility”.
This burning waste may create energy as a byproduct but it also creates epic level emissions and toxins, which will be spewed into our atmosphere - this will be the air that we all breathe and I object to this pollution being sanction by Council. In addition it will add a nasty haze to our town that we definitely do not need. After that is potential acid rain and other nasties just like in Beijing and other big cities.

This proposal takes energy away from real and better efforts to recycle, such as by creating products in demand that do not create as many emissions, or that can serve the community better, such a recycled playground equipment, household products, road surfacing and the like.

I oppose this from going forward, being a new resident of Donnybrook this is going to effect our neighbourhood before it’s even started to develop! Do you want to develop the communities around you or just get profit from destroying our air.

Vote no, don’t put this so close to our communities that we’re trying to build a life in

This move will definitely leave me with no option but to sell & move away from this area. If this goes ahead then good luck to all the neighbouring suburbs.
I'm not going to loose 10 years of my life for $$$$$$$.
