I live behind the development and shadow analysis shows it gives shade for most of the morning in my garden. A 7 story building in inappropriate for what is behind the building (I.e. residential 2 story buildings).

As commented by neighbouring residents, 7 storey buildings have no place alongside single dwelling residences.
The issue of overshadowing, overlooking and domination of streetscape may seemingly be addressed on paper by developer's drawings; but the impact in reality is far more substantial. No amount of setting back of higher levels compensates for the negative repercussions on surrounding buildings and natural landscape.

The validity of 7 storey apartments are questionable given the current state of the economy and drastically reduced demand on apartment occupancy. What purpose do medium -large scale apartment developments hold if the demand is not there, other than to deform the existing built landscape?

Of great concern is the "flow-on affect" such developments initiate once they are approved.
Once a 7 storey structure is permitted, then a 5 storey building will be permitted round the corner in the next side street. From there, a 4 storey will be allowed further down the same side street. In a short space of time, our single dwellings with garden space that cater for families will be in short supply. The liveable model of a leafy inner suburb will cease to exist due to the fact that council never set boundaries and regulations to prevent this form of medium density housing from taking over.
A 7 storey apartment building is simply not sympathetic to any part of the built landscape in the area. It should simply not even be an option.

The dramatic height of this proposed building will be an eyesore when approaching from the south, especially when all surrounding homes and apartments are no more than 4 storeys.
It will stand out as an overbearing structure which will look terrible. As well as this there is already too much traffic in the local area from apartment developments.
