Harrow Bush Nursing centre is partnering with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) and the Virtual Emergency Department (VED) on a pilot program to install a VED telehealth booth (pod) at the front of our building, providing 24-hour access to virtual emergency care. The pod forms part of an initiative aimed at improving access to healthcare services for people living in regional and remote communities. The installation will provide community members with convenient access to emergency healthcare consultations via the Virtual Emergency Department, particularly outside of normal business hours. The pod is proposed to be located at the front entrance of our building on Blair Street. It will be positioned under the verandah on the north-eastern side of the main entrance and will not encroach upon or impact the public footpath in front of the building. The dimensions of the pod are: Height: 2590mm Width: 1400mm Depth: 1500mm The associated access ramp dimensions are: Height: 100mm (at its highest point) Width: 1250mm Length: 750mm We have carefully considered a number of potential locations around the building to ensure appropriate visibility, security, accessibility, and disability access. While the car park area was investigated, it was deemed unsuitable due to the gravel access path, reduced visibility, and limitations for people with mobility challenges. The proposed location at the front of the building provides the most appropriate solution, offering excellent visibility, compliance with accessibility requirements, and access to existing security infrastructure, including external lighting and security camera coverage. This location will help ensure the safety, security, and accessibility of the facility for all community members. We believe this installation will provide a significant benefit to our community by enhancing access to timely healthcare services and supporting improved health outcomes for residents and visitors alike. The project is being fully funded by the Royal Flying Doctors Service with an MOU in place with Harrow Bush Nursing Centre and VED. We are planning to have deployment of the POD on the 14th September 2026 and launch of the POD on the 22nd September
