This application is a total shocker. Bondi Beach Post Office is a crucial heritage-listed building and activity that forms the heart of the Hall Street Village centre. The heritage impact statement is such a light-weight analysis that it's hardly worth of the name. You wonder if the author ever set foot in the building. Despite name-checking the Burra Charter, there's no value given to the actual current activity of the Post Office qua post office. Locals know that this is one of the busiest commercial counters in Bondi, with visitors and others routinely lining up for sending parcels, passports, etc. And they want to get rid of the trees and planters outside. It's a scandalous proposal! Council planners need to look closely at this massively out-sized proposal that would effectively rip the civic heart out of Bondi Beach.
