BIKESydney supports this application in principle.
It will much enhance the Kensington St precinct to increase alfresco dining. More please.

However, approving applications for additional outdoor dining space incrementally risks overlooking provisioning also for the increase in travel to, and parking within the precinct, specifically, on Kensington St.

All approvals for outdoor dining should have attached to them the requirement to further enhance and prioritise walking and cycling modes to the venue. Here, consideration should be given to increasing the quantum of bike parking in Kensington St, and particularly at the expense of existing car parking spots on Kensington St. The incremental upscaling of alfresco dining in this street is (rightly) introducing more and more foot-traffic and patrons being seated within one metre of moving cars. The street should be made a walking and (slow-to-destination, not through-traffic) cycling street to the exclusion of car access. Not every street in the precinct has to be driveable. There are car parking opportunities very close to Kensington street. Removing cars will also substantially improve the noise, air quality and safety ambient of the street.
