I strongly object to alterations proposed for Banyule Homestead believing they will significantly alter the building from its original state as a 19th Century Victorian era home,.( Refer to report by Pino Andronaco and Marzia Della-Grazia of 63 Buckingham Drive Heidelberg), and ask that Heritage Victoria reject the application.
I also object to the fact that listed significant trees have been removed without a permit. Sadly the current owners of Banyule Homestead have impudently thumbed their nose at Heritage Victoria. Hopefully from now on Heritage Victoria will resolutely ensure that without fear or favour the heritage guidelines that they promulgate will be strictly adhered to. If not, these guidelines will become meaningless.
I also make a further submission to support my argument that the above permit application should be rejected by Heritage Victoria.
Banyule Homestead, the oldest substantial home in Victoria has crowned the escarpment overlooking the Banyule Flats and Yarra Valley for 170 years. It preceeded the establishment of The State of Victoria by 5 years.
When built it stood as a proud sentinel over a tranquil rural scene, immortalised by the renowned Heidelberg School of Painters.
The tranquil environment that was the setting of Banyule Homestead in 1846 was and is today an integral part of Banyule Homestead’s rich heritage and most importantly a significant component of the heritage and history of Heidelberg and of The State of Victoria and must be preserved in perpetuity.
That heritage is totally incompatible with a bustling boisterous reception centre.
Kindest regards.
