This is far too big a boarding house for a residential area and we oppose the application as it was originally opposed by Marrickville Council when it was only for 38 beds.

The developer is being far too greedy and a boarding house of this size is likely to have a negative effect on the surrounding area, which has families and small children.

This will have a negative affect on the area and I agree whole heartedly with a previous comment, many more families and children live in the area these days, time for this type of accomodation to stop. I would be absolutely horrified if I lived near or next to this.

The council were correct to reject this last time; and the developer has now come back asking for more. 68 boarders is way too many for a property that size; there is a large risk of anti-social behaviour; personality clashes; etc squeezing so many people into a small area.

I recognise the need for low cost accomodation in the inner-west, but this is not the right location - far from shops and the station; on the intersection of two congested roads; and across the road from a primary school; in an area that is mostly residential with young families.

I support the application as we need accommodation for low-income workers and students in our area. It is within a few minutes' walk to Petersham shops and station.

Modern boarding houses are more like mini-apartment blocks these days, and support for mixed-density blocks within the area is our best hope for arguing to State Government for increased amenities and infrastructure.

This is not in keeping with the local area of working families and has the potential for bringing anti-social behaviour to the area. Similar boarding houses are notorious for rubbish dumping in the streets with quick turnover of boarders as well other anti-social behaviour. This application should be rejected or only approved for a maximum of 10 apartments.

I oppose this change. The boarding house currently does not have facilities to cater for this many people. There is no parking, no plans for garbage disposal & no letterboxes.
This property is currently used illegally, with boarders jumping the fence and resisting enquiries as to why they are on the property.

In response to Mike Williams's comment:

In general I agree with what you are saying; and I hate to be the one arguing against low cost housing; but this is the wrong solution in the wrong place.
I walk past the property regularly - works have already commenced; and judging by the quality of work going on; this will not be a modern boarding house but rather low cost cheap job. It's a low quality renovation of 100 year old property with some nasty 60s outbuildings.

There's a boarding house around the corner in Albert St (currently under renovation to triple in size). Residents - clearly not well - used to sit on the front verandah and make aggressive comments at passing people. With nearly 70 people squeezed into this property the risks of similar or worse anti-social behaviour are high.
