This is a beautiful character filled, period house. It would be a great loss to the area to lose properties like this for a cheaply constructed duplex that is devoid of any real character.

I agree Jane, I new dwellings were better designed - ie more sensitive to the area and neighbours - and used better materials, I wouldn't have a problem. But so many of the duplexes are very poor buildings. Our older houses have lasted a century. Will our new houses do as well? Probably not. I see so many new houses that are already showing signs of deterioration. What sort of city are we leaving for the future? One that needs replacing by the look of it.

It is disappointing that our new council is not taking a stricter line on preserving period homes such as this one. The home is in good condition and compliments the streetscape whichever contains similar houses.

A dual occupancy on this site will reduce/remove greenspace and will no doubt encroach on the privacy of the neighbouring homes.

We need to preserve the character of the suburb by retaining these older homes, not knocking them down. They are very well built and can be added to or extended without being ruined. The huge new homes are not only not in keeping with the surrounding homes, they are shoddily built and ruin the heritage value of Arncliffe. I hope the new council will consider and respect these homes and preserve for our future.
