I live in earshot of the Civic Hotel. While I fully support their use of the underground space all night, and am an occasional patron, their track record of noise spillage from the ground and first floors has been variable and sometimes very problematic over the past few years.
While they have taken positive steps recently, and perhaps the lockouts (which I oppose) have helped, I would request that any approval given specify that no intrusive sound be audible at nearby residential properties after midnight. It would also be appreciated if patrons used the Pitt, not Goulburn St doors, as open doors lead to a noise increase.
I don't expect not to have any noise in the inner city - far from it. But at times, dance parties at the Civic have been so loud that I felt like they were in the next room. The problem has historically been worst on long weekend special events, when they used upper levels which are less well-insulated.
