This is a terrible idea to place something of this scale and noise in a public park. This is a residential area and enough of Sydney Park has already been destroyed for Westconnex. The area proposed is right near a lake and the impact on wildlife from noise and litter would be unacceptable. We can already hear noises from Sydney Park way up at the brick works and this would be much, much worse. Please keep Sydney Park a quiet, family space.

  2. Gregory Ryan commented

Sydney Park has already been dessimated by Westconnex and the noise from this type of venue would have a disastrous effect on the neighbourhood as well as park users. Please consider the natural habitat that has been created. A large entertainment venue open until 2:00am would change the character of the park and surrounds irretrievably. There would presumably be people drinking and hanging in the park late at night after events. This is a shocking idea.

Sorry but an entertainment space and cafe that will be surrounded by the Westconnex monstrosity and the subsequently ruined Sydney Park?

Who comes up with this stuff?! The NSW government has already authorised the dumestructiin of the community t students paid a premium to live in. Do you honestly think a cafe with a view of traffic and an entertainment space with nowhere to park (because it's a motor way) is going to appease residents?

These development applications are getting more and more desperate.

I find this application rather bizarre and may do further submissions on this site. I was under the impression that there was already an application for a development of 400 apartments. This larger development was being deceptively advertised on online material without any reference to WestCONnex.

WestCONnex is currently destroying a whole section of park right beside this site and traffic is restricted and will be restricted for many months. The fact that this has not even been explained makes me wonder about how much consultants even know about the site. At the moment it is not possible to walk along the road at this point - unless you want an 8 person police escort following you. The police have currently occupied part of this site in order to suppress protests. There is no road side parking here at all anymore.

This work and business will further disrupt the park which is adjacent on the western side.

There was a beautiful old state significant warehouse called Rudders that could have been used for this sort of activity but this is in the process of being destroyed too.

WHO has been consulted on this 'proposal' ? WHO has met with local residents face-to-face and provided ie talked about/explained and answered questions on the rationale for this kind of 'development' ?
Consultants in title but in practice ?
What expertise do these 'consultants' have ?
Which other community-development-projects have they had input to ? WHERE do THEY live ?
This part of Sydney has negligible public-green-accessible space for its burgeoning diverse-demographic population. Again and again we watch the erosion of local 'commonwealth' : parks, trees, birds , natural habitat for lead & fumes & particulate-laden air , traffic and noise pollution.

  6. Mark Alsop commented

Is this a joke? The area is undergoing such change that I find it hard that any prior consultation has been considered.
Currently there are events in Sydney Park….
    1) The noise generated at these echoes’ all around the St Peters side of the park like a boom box. Late night kick drums thumping well into the night keeping residents awake. We are currently at our wits end.
    2) People attending the park at night are noisy as they approach in our side streets
    3) Car parking at night is currently at a premium with no spaces on Barwon Park Road. The use of Taxi changeover compacts this and a suggestion of an events area would have to provide massive FREE parking for a minimum of 300 cars for this to even be considered.
    4) This is a residential area and the suggestion of a 2am closure is highly inappropriate.

This is a crazy idea for all the reasons already provided. The proposal for 400 units was cheeky enough.

This property has always been an anomaly; carved out of Sydney Park, I guess as a previous iteration of the council sliced off a bit for some easy money.

Now is a golden opportunity to compulsorily acquire the property and add it to Sydney Park to compensate for all the land lost to WestConnex.

  8. Kate Kennedy commented

This proposal is bizarre and given that there is already a DA for a mega unit development I cannot understand what is going on. Sydney Park is a much needed oasis in the increasingly congested inner west. Good planning and lots of money has gone into the Wetlands and this proposal jeopardises this sanctuary.
However there are alternatives for an entertainment venue such as the heritage listed Rudders building. Westconnex will disrupt the area for some time and a noisy nightclub could be a good fit.

  9. matthew cleary commented

This proposal is contrary to what is required through the loss of available space at Sydney Park through the WestCONnex development. There is a nefarious claim that new green space will be provided through the spaghetti junction at the St Peters interchange. However I cannot imagine anyone other than taggers will use the space below the interchange. Just look at any 'park' in the US or Europe located similarly. Westconnex, at a minimum and as an act of good faith should compulsorily acquire this space and return it to the local community as compensation.

  10. Robynne Hayward commented

I agree with all the objections made. It it true that any 'green space' under a noisy concrete interchange usually turns into a wasteland, although the homeless may find it useful.
I can't believe that the rights that are supposed to apply to heritage listed buildings are so easily overturned by this government. Westconnex is demolishing the Rudders building, cutting it up and one of the proposals is to reinstate bits of it in Sydney park, as some sort of tacky and cynical 'reference' to the building. These people have no idea of how precious that green space is ... this is surprising, as I would have thought they would at least have regard for the huge amount of money spent on plantings and creating a wetlands area, obviously they don't have regard for the environment itself! I bet they don't live in the inner west!
I agree with Matthew Cleary, westconnex should acquire the Euston Rd property and return it to Sydney Park to compensate in a small way for the loss of land from the park, the destruction of hundreds of mature trees, the demolition of people's homes, the horrible impact of the motorway on the remaining neighbouring homes, the ugliness of a concrete spaghetti junction, the destruction of the suburb's character and the impact of all of this on the whole inner west area.
What's really depressing is the fact that all this destruction is for no gain. This motorway is not a long term solution to improving the traffic between the city and the outer suburbs. If the money had been spent on a sophisticated train system Sydney could have moved out of the transport dark ages. Once again economic profit (for a few, not the people of Sydney) is triumphing over common sense.
As an aside, I read somewhere that these comments do not count as objections, unless this is specifically stated. I don't know if this is true, but for the record, I object!

  11. Alex Ozdowski commented

I actually support this proposal as long as impacts on neighbours are mitigated. I do think that the opening hours are pushing it and have concerns with that although I do think it would add an interesting venue for the local community to enjoy.

  12. Trish Leen commented

After having lost my house in St Peters to Westconnex I still visit the park with my dogs.

I am opposed to this development as we have already lost a huge amount of the Park. I agree with others in that the property should be returned to the Park.

  13. Robert Woodley commented

Please not another venue pumping doof doof music into our suburb. I live in Alexandria and often on Saturday night we have to listen to loud music, the thump of which you can hear all over the suburb. When I have rung City of Sydney or the Police they can do nothing because permission has been granted until 11 pm usually. Now this one is applying for 2 am. Please no more concerts and noise in our Saturdays.

  14. Clara Mason commented

Tranquility is the vital factor in spending time in a Park. I also like to go and enjoy an entertainment centre and would support something in the area but not if it brings hustle and bustle to my vital interlude with nature. Please stop bringing a new amenity at the cost of an irreplaceable one!
