The loss of the historic Great Western Hotel would be a tragedy for Melbourne, removing one of the best examples of Melbourne's historic 1860s pub culture. The Council should ensure that the developer's plan to bulldoze this piece of our history does not proceed.

I support Christopher Lamb's comment. It seems almost inconceivable that anyone would allow, let alone want, the destruction of this notable old pub building for "mixed use" - what an anodyne term that is.
