Keep the trees. They are not an inconvenience and provide shade, lower the temperature and make us feel we are not just living in a concrete jungle. Also, leafy areas are well-known for commanding premium property prices.

I agree that the palm trees should be kept. They are a landmark on the highway- why relocate them? Is this the same developer who was intending to turn the Masonic hall into a boarding house? If so, why would a couple of iconic palms be a problem now, and does it matter if the palms are next to the Doric columns? It doesn't make any sense to me. Enough trees have been removed from our area by developers.

I do not mind the trees being removed. It will improve the aesthetic of the building in my view and there's no point keeping trees just for the sake of it. Other shade trees can be planted elsewhere. I agree with the comments above that trees improve the area and livability. But there has to be a balance. Trees can be planted elsewhere in substitute for the removal of these ones. I don't think these palm trees are iconic or that old in fact.

To my knowledge 5 trees have already been removed by this same developer in the past 18 months. Four were street trees and one was within another site on the corner of Myrtle and Eden Streets.
These palms were here at least 45 years ago - its a subjective view as to whether they can be considered iconic - they certainly are a landmark and very attractive so why remove them unless its necessary?
