This stretch of Broadway, being so close to Central Station and the bus interchange is extremely busy with pedestrian traffic. There is no room for the chairs, tables and barricades on the footpath. I have frequently passed Bar Broadway when there are no patrons using these facilities and yet large crowds of pedestrians have to jostle for room to pass one another on the footpath. I have seen pedestrians risk the danger of walking onto the road as there is not enough room for people to pass one another.

Outdoor seating along this section of Broadway is inappropriate. It is a busy road, the air is heavy with traffic fumes and it is unsurprising that patrons choose not to sit in such an environment. Halving the amount of room along such a busy footpath with barricades, especially when the chairs and tables cordoned off by them are empty or almost empty, makes no sense whatsoever. This proposal should be rejected.
