I would like to object to the above proposal on the following grounds:
1. The change of use would remove a substantial space allocated for retail purposes.
2. The Launceston CBD is already limited in its availability of suitable retail premises.
3. It is not absolutely necessary for the offices of Mr Andrew Nikolic to be located in a prime retail area of Launceston.
4. It is by no means certain, some would say it is very unlikely, that Mr Nikolic will continue to have use of the premises in the short to medium term given a federal election must be called within 18 months.
5. There is no guarantee that Mr Nikolic, or any member of Parliament on either side of politics, will continue to make use of the premises beyond that 18-month timeframe.
6. Given the abundance of available office space within the CBD and on the fringe of the CBD, and the relative scarcity of retail space, it is unnecessary and against the public interest to grant the change of use.
