Subject: Objection to Proposed Development – Two Fast Food Restaurants
I write to formally express my objection to the proposed Development Application for the establishment of two fast food restaurants at the planned location.
While I understand the need for thoughtful development and growth within our community, I believe this proposal is unnecessary and unsuitable for the area for the following reasons.
Road Safety Concerns
Road safety in this area is already a significant concern. There are frequent accidents along this stretch of road, and the proposal does not appear to adequately address traffic management or safety risks associated with increased vehicle movements. The addition of two fast food outlets is likely to significantly increase turning movements, short-notice braking, and congestion, which would further compromise the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and local residents.
Increased Traffic and Insufficient Infrastructure
The existing road network and surrounding infrastructure are already under strain, particularly with anticipated future developments in the region. Introducing two fast food restaurants would increase traffic volume well beyond what the current infrastructure is capable of safely supporting. Priority should be given to strengthening infrastructure to support planned growth before approving developments that will add further pressure to the system.
Impact on Rural Character and Lifestyle
This area is valued for its rural character and lifestyle, which is a primary reason many residents have chosen to live here. The introduction of fast food outlets would detract from the rural setting and alter the character of the community. Such developments are inconsistent with the expectations of residents who seek a quieter, rural environment.
Environmental and Amenity Concerns
Fast food establishments are commonly associated with increased litter and waste, which would negatively impact the local environment and visual amenity. Maintaining the cleanliness and natural appeal of the area is important to residents and to the preservation of its rural identity.
Impact on Property Values and Community Appeal
Developments of this nature may reduce the perceived desirability of the area and negatively impact property and land values. Many residents have invested in this area because of its rural appeal and community atmosphere, and developments that diminish this character may have lasting economic consequences.
Conclusion
For the reasons outlined above, I respectfully request that this Development Application be carefully reconsidered. The proposed development does not appear to align with the safety needs, infrastructure capacity, environmental considerations, or rural character of the area.
I urge the relevant authority to prioritise developments that support sustainable growth, protect community safety, and preserve the unique character of this rural environment.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback on this proposal.
Sincerely,
Allanna Lakin
