Trees with hollows should never be completely removed. If tree is dying, part of the tree can be removed and truck and hollow left to die so the hollow can still be used.

The hollow is not one that an animal or bird could use as a nest. The hollow is a small ‘gap’ between bifurcations in the trunk, only big enough for insects or water to get in. The water being the issue here, in weakening the already severely pruned tree (by the energy company).
