I oppose this development application. This proposal would remove a transitional group home that provided supported accommodation for vulnerable people and replace it with a single private dwelling. That’s a loss of both supported housing and overall housing capacity. Transitional homes are vital in helping people move from crisis to stability. Approving this DA would make our housing and homelessness crisis worse.

I oppose this change. We need to be increasing the number of dwellings at this time, not decreasing them.
Petersham has averaged only 26 net new dwellings per year since 1991 and the inevitable consequence of failing to grow dwelling stock in a high demand area is that the rich will monopolise more and more of it. Council should prioritise significant upzoning in Petersham for Stage 2 of the Fairer Future Plan to counter that effect.
Emphatically, no. The only reason to knock down a place like this is to replace it with 5x the dwellings, and even then I'd be iffy about losing a group home.
In a housing crisis, why would we permit this loss of dwellings, especially for the most vulnerable in society.
While this particular change should be opposed, this is merely a symptom of a broader problem. Housing in the inner west is too expensive, because of excessively restrictive development controls.
It is just more evidence that the Inner West LGA needs to be upzoned across the board. This is the only way to ensure that housing can be provided for everyone, no matter their situation.
Hey, this is a pretty straightforward argument, especially for an inner-west suburb with tons of cool amenities and easy access to transport. Losing a group home to make way for just one house is surely a no-go during our housing crunch. It really shows that Petersham should seriously consider bumping up the zoning to create more homes not less, so more people can have a place to live now and in the future.
Kind of crazy to be decreasing the amount of dwellings on a lot in an inner city area with good public transport. Given the country’s current housing situation, the exact opposite should be happening (densifying). Because of this, I oppose this development.
This application to demolish eight bedrooms in a shared living arrangement to be replaced by a single house is out of line with community expectations. Such a net loss of dwellings and housing diversity is unacceptable.
I oppose this application. This site should be used for higher density at a time when there is a housing shortage and Petersham has low build rates. It certainly should not be approved as it’s reducing the number of people that can live in this lot and in will add more expensive real estate.
This is a bizarre application in the face of recent council actions to increase density and improve availability for the type of housing the inner west needs.
It’s a grotesque attempt to build a mansion when what should happen here is housing for at a minimum the same amount of people per sqM and possibly more people than at present.
I oppose this DA because it should be rezoned for higher density and more housing. I dont want to see further gentrification like what is proposed, this will be bad for the community to have more people kicked out of rentals and joining me in the long queues.
