I would like to formally request that this construction application be denied.

I am a resident of Newtown and feel the immediate area would be severely disrupted by the development of a business which operates 24/7 (all hours of the day), differing from it's neighbouring businesses. Furthermore, I believe the introduction of a 24 hour establishment would lead to increased criminal and antisocial behaviour. Finally, the neighbourhood as a whole would suffer from the influx of traffic surrounding the establishment.

I love Newtown and as a resident I sincerely hope my concerns will be heard.

I have to agree with Penelope here.
I have no problem with a food business in the area, but a 24hr business is not in the interest of the locals who have to deal with the mess. Down the street the Yo-Chi venue has created a spray of abandoned Yo-chi packasging for at least 200meters from their premises.

Newtown doesn't need more takeaway litter sprayed around the neighbourhood.

I support this application.

Sydney's nightlife is finally bouncing back after the damaging lockout laws. Adding more 24/7 options across the city will help keep this recovery going strong.

The proposed location is particularly great, being near RPA Hospital means hospital staff will have much needed late night options before, during or after their shifts.

I assume this is to be a Mcdonalds or Hungry Jacks judging by the internal plan.
The only good thing about these outlets is that they traditionally provide toilet facilities to weary travellers. There are no such facilities in the plan. And do you really think Maccas and HJ etc contribute to 'night life'? Still -there's nothing Council can do to stop them. The cognoscenti of Newtown will still go to Clem's for chicken and wee in the back lane. I don't support the plan.

As a long time Newtown resident, I strongly appeal to reject this application and other further applications of a similar vein. This is not just about a business opening a few extra hours. Its a dangerous trend reaching critical mass. ruining Newtown as an alternative cultural hub.

I was walking by Newtown Station last Friday and overheard a couple talking. One said to the other: "Remember when we used to feel safe coming out here?" I could only agree with the sentiment.

The shortsideness of the City of Sydney to date has turned the main strip of King Street between Newtown Station and Missenden Road into an apocalypse of "drunking" venues, fast food, tobacconists and street violence, largely servicing the NON-RESIDENT population out to get wasted on the weekend.

It could no longer be described as "vibrant" nightlife of any quality. The smaller businesses competing to survive are forced to adopt this model to service the new demographic or shut down. As corporate junk food (such as KFC) move in, and allows 24-hour operation, it only applies the thumb screws to kill smaller players off even more.

Newtown's vibrant, alternative and individualist (and safe) reputation is quickly becoming a fiction. If its too late to keep Newtown "weird", at least put on the brakes to prevent it turning into the new Kings Cross.

Havent we learned from the mistakes that triggered the "lockouts" to begin with?

More late night/all night food options for Newtown is a positive given the alcohol serving venues and 24/7 employment centres nearby. Giving patrons of the many licensed venues a place to get something to eat would assist in reducing anti-social behaviour from empty stomach drunken people late at night or early into the morning hours. It would also provide options for workers at the nearby RPA Hospital who work unusual hours in their shifts. This greater diversity in Newtown would be a great benefit to help keep it a vibrant entertainment hub.
