Here on north Burleigh headland it is zoned medium density 9M which is 3 story limit This is an application for a 5 story duplex and a 16.5m build height not a 9 m which is the town plan height for this area. This increased height is above even uplift allowance (which this application does not qualify for) This application should be limited to the town plan height of 9m not to an increased height to 16.5 m build almost double the height of our town plan. If this is allowed then why even have a town plan ?? If approved this will set a precedent of 5 storey developments in a 3 storey zoned area Unprecedented and should not be granted this excessive height

I absolutely agree with you and I wish you luck. We’ve had a number of developments on The Esplanade in Burleigh that did nothing meet Town Planning requirements. Individually and Body Corporates all made applications for the heights to be reduced to meet the GCCC’s own requirements. Lawyers were required and still the developers won. I will keep everything crossed that you are more successful.

The owner initially proposed a house design that complied with the height limit and had the support of all neighbouring residents. Now, without regard for that goodwill, he has drastically changed course, seeking extreme planning relaxations that far exceed the applicable rules. Why? This is not a case of financial necessity — far from it, as the owner is already extremely wealthy. So why show such disregard for the interests of his futures neighbours who will be directly and negatively affected by this new proposal?

I also oppose this change in application. The height limit for the area is 9m as per the town plan. Why then is this an option to be considered? This is blatant disrespect for the area and its residents in an already overcrowded suburb. If this gets approved more oversized bulky developments will follow. I trust that the Council will also oppose accordingly.
