On behalf of several aeroglen neighbours 5 diehm, 6 and 8 magee st 9 diehm, 1 diehm and 3 aeroglen dr and myself at 5 diehm strongly object to proposal of a pet crematorium at 1 aeroglen dr aeroglen reference nbr 13445_ 2025 in residential area and proposal made to owner by counsel that he was to use diehm st residential for access to business not his front access on aeroglen dr which we find strange as all other businesses on this road have access. No to both proposals on behalf of aeroglen rate payers

We’ve submitted twice to council to refuse the da proposed change of venue of the 13445/2025 pet crematorium( even if it’s only called that and is in fact different, we still object!)

My husband and myself.
And my above dwelling neighbour all object strongly.

Mr. D. Stubbin
Mrs. R.Stubbin
Dr. Cj Westmore of Aeroglen

We make this objection on behalf of our family of seven, all permanent residents of the affected area, as well as in the interest of our residential community, which is a peaceful, close-knit neighbourhood consisting largely of families, children, and long-term residents. The proposed development is incompatible with the existing character, safety, and amenity of the surrounding community.

Grounds for Objection

1. Proximity to Community and Recreational Facilities

The proposed site is directly opposite key community infrastructure, including:
• Local sporting fields,
• A community hall,
• A family-friendly park,
• A dog park, and
• The regionally significant Australian Tropical Herbarium and National Botanic Gardens, which attract visitors and tourists.

The introduction of a pet crematorium, particularly one involving alkaline hydrolysis, is in direct conflict with the purpose and use of these community and tourism facilities. It sends a disturbing and inappropriate message to families, school groups, and tourists visiting these sites.

2. Public Safety and Parking Concerns

The area surrounding the site already suffers from limited and unsafe parking, especially during events at the community hall or sports fields. The development would significantly increase vehicular traffic and exacerbate congestion, creating hazardous conditions for children and families regularly crossing the road and walking to nearby facilities.

3. Environmental and Health Risks – Flooding and Waste

This location is prone to flooding, which raises significant concerns regarding:
• The potential leakage of untreated waste and alkaline by-products into stormwater systems, and
• Chemical contamination of local soil and waterways, with impacts on both the environment and public health.

There is insufficient information provided on waste treatment and disposal, and the risk of environmental contamination must be thoroughly considered, especially given the proximity to flood-prone zones.

4. Legal and Ethical Concerns – Alkaline Hydrolysis

We note with concern that alkaline hydrolysis, the process proposed for use at this crematorium, is banned or not permitted in several Australian states and other countries, due to its untested environmental impact and regulatory ambiguity. It is, at present, a controversial and under-regulated technology. The application fails to adequately demonstrate compliance with environmental, waste, and health management standards applicable in Queensland.

5. Incompatibility with Zoning and Residential Character

A pet crematorium is inherently industrial in function and not suitable for a residentially zoned area. This proposal is fundamentally at odds with the peaceful, family-oriented nature of our neighbourhood and would negatively impact local amenity, property values, and social cohesion.

Conclusion

We respectfully urge Council to reject this application in full on the grounds of:
• Incompatibility with land use and community expectations,
• Environmental and public health risks,
• Inadequate infrastructure to support safe operation, and
• The social and ethical concerns posed by its proximity to community and tourism assets.

As lawful residents directly affected by this proposed development, we request that our objection be formally acknowledged and that no approval be granted to any development that so clearly undermines the well-being of the local community and environment.

Sincerely everyone in Aeroglen, but 1 person who stands to gain by the approval of the DA.
We chose to make our voices heard.
And we want evidence immediately that this will not be actioned.
Thank you.
And please tell us the residence what else we need to do to stop this madness.

This property is NOT zoned commercial or industrial as many of us assumed but Neighbourhood Centre Zone.
Among other things this zone should "cater to the needs of the immediate neighbourhood and create a sense of community"
Any change to zoning requires Council to conduct an Impact Assessment
Objections to this Application must to be in the form of a Submission to Council by July 28th
