Notice of application for a planning permit that is currently on site that Glen Eira Council put up doesn't mention anything in regard to the SALE & consumption of LIQUOR???

This is very misleading!!!

Subject: Misleading Planning Permit Notice – Omission of Liquor Sale and Consumption Details

Dear Glen Eira Council,

I am writing to raise a concern regarding the current planning permit application notice displayed on-site. The notice makes no mention of the sale and consumption of liquor, which is a significant aspect of the proposed use and should be clearly disclosed to the public.

This omission is misleading and may prevent residents from fully understanding the implications of the application. Transparency is vital in planning matters, and all relevant details—particularly those involving liquor licensing—should be explicitly included on the public notice.

I request that the current notice be reviewed, corrected, and reissued to accurately reflect the full scope of the application, including any intentions relating to the sale and consumption of alcohol.

Why am I unable to access plans on your site??- should also be available to public!!

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Smith J

Hi Smith J,

I agree that there needs to be transparency [this is also a legal issue due to it involving Liquor].
I was just able to download the docs - it is a large restaurant project by Grill'd.

I personally find it objectionable and I can't imagine anyone living there would like to live next to that.

This site was previously visual blight: overgrown and covered in graffiti. Council intervened and got the prior owner to mow and perform upkeep on the site as they were making little-to-no effort. As a North Rd resident I would welcome this uplift to the area.

I have no concerns over the potential future sale of alcohol. I cannot reasonably envisage boisterous drunks rolling out of a Grill'd and disturbing the peace. If by some miracle one could even afford to get drunk at a Grill'd I doubt you'd hear them over the pre-existing din of North Road.

As for the substance of the application itself, I have some concerns over the heat island effect of a site maximised for parking and with low bushy landscaping. The poorly kept site wasn't doing any wonders for biodiversity but it was still better than a carpark built edge to edge.

BT- it's always encouraging to see local residents engaged in the future of our neighbourhood.

Just a small but important clarification: it was not "Council intervention" that prompted action on the previously neglected site. In fact, it took nearly a full year of persistent emails, follow-ups, and photographic evidence from me before the CEO finally took steps to address the visual blight. While Council may now appear responsive, the initial and sustained pressure came entirely from concerned residents like myself — not from any proactive governance.

I too share your thoughts on the irony of worrying about noise from Grill’d in the context of North Road's existing cacophony
That said, your point on the heat island effect and the extent of impermeable We may have moved on from the overgrown graffiti-laden mess, but that doesn't mean the new iteration should ignore principles of sustainability and green urban design. Let's hope those shaping this project are listening to more than just commercial interests.

To those who have commented so far -:

I agree with these comments generally.
I am curious about where abouts you are seeing the raising of noise as an issue?

It certainly lacks a lot as far as sustainable design goes.

It is great to finally see something seriously positive for the site proposed. If zoned for it, housing might be better considering the housing issues.
