This is the one situation where I fully support the removal of an established tree. Camphor Laurel are an invasive species and propagate at an alarming rate (though not as fast as lantana). They seek out all the resources to thrive which depletes nutrients from our local natives.

The removal of Camphor Laurel should not only be encouraged by our local councils, but there should be funding available for the home owners who are seeking to better the chances for our native trees to thrive. I removed a few from my yard (an expensive process) and my natives gums are now doing so much better not having to compete for nutrients.

Agree with the previous submitters, the community and environmental benefits of a camphor laurel removal significantly outweigh other matters. The applicant's desires are unremarkable and should be granted approval. Concerns of any others regarding tree loss can be suitably managed by the imposition of suitable consent conditions regarding the planting of a suitable replacement tree of minimum 1.2 metre height that is capable of producing a broad canopy upon maturity.
