This is a tragedy. Our area's ambience is being destroyed . Chatswood West is one by one losing it's lovely old homes which should be heritage listed. Three beautiful old homes have been demolished in our area (McCartney, Kareela and Greville) in the last 6 months. The tree on this property is a beautiful old gum which should not be removed.

I agree with Jan Miley. This is a lovely family home that had a beautiful garden. All the plants have now been ripped out in readiness for the demolition of the house. I don't understand why people buy into these areas, seemingly because they like the area, and then destroy it with these box type new builds which have no character. The last one to go in Macartney Avenue was unchanged from when it was built back in the 1920s. Unlike most of the other houses in the street it was well maintained and did not have its front verandah built in. These houses are solid brick so it means all of this goes to landfill. Also these houses have small windows which help keep the houses warmer in winter and cooler in summer. So much for being environmently friendly with these new houses and their big windows. It was a tragedy to see the beautiful old gum tree in Wood Street being chopped down. Now the lovely old tree at the back of 19 Kareela will most likely go too. Perhaps not because of council approval, but because of the disruption due to the build. I object to the demolition of the house at 19 Kareela Avenue.
