Why is this significant tree considered disposable?

I support the request made by Claudia Flaxman. What is the reason why this tree should be removed ?
I agree with the two previous comments on the removal of this tree. Why does such a beautiful tree have to be removed. If the limbs are dangerous trim them back. This tree took years and years maybe decades to grow and gone in just a few hours. So sad.
Yet another beautiful, life giving tree to die for what purpose.? Please reconsider.
The tree doesn't look to be near a building. What is the reason for removal?
