Balmain is renown, and loved by most of its community, for the preservation of its old and existing homes. I believe the Council should refrain from allowing or encouraging ‘new builds’ as much as possible as many of these homes do not fit into the character of the peninsula. I do not support the removal of 4a Datchett St for this reason. Perhaps the owner/developer could retain the original street facade and update the back part of the house as other neighbours have.
Thank you.

Looks like a perfectly good Federation type building to me, which, with some loving care could be restored to its original state. We don’t need any 21st century buildings in this historic precinct. If the owner wants to demolish a building why doesn’t he/she go to Baulkham Hills and spend their money there.
