Why can’t this very well constructed building be retained rather than demolished and go to land fill? It could be restored and provide more affordable local homes for buyers and renters.
Council and the State Govt could facilitate this via some of its planning powers. Why are we going to lose more affordable small homes in this part of Camberwell?
The proposed apartments will no doubt be much more expensive that the existing homes. We don’t need more luxury apartments in Camberwell. We need homes that ordinary people can afford.
I totally agree with the above. We need more people to say so.
“Rotherford” garden flats - should not be demolished to make way for badly built new apartments. Yet another block of garden setting flats that have not been protected or missed in a gap study. This perfectly good building & landscape will all to go to landfill - very disappointing. When will the destruction of local history cease?

Permit submitted to build 19 Apartments.
Council received 418 OBJECTIONS from rate payers and still the developer is taking the application to VCAT with a solicitor.
Try fighting that ($13,500) required. I’m an elderly rate payer having lived in this area for 40 years. Why have an elected Council if developers can find loopholes to build their $$$monstrous apartments in our beautiful leafy suburb.
I despair……where are the 418 objectors?
Why demolish 9 very serviceable apartments well before their use by date to construct 16 trendier apartments? Why mess with the current attractive and functional garden setting? Will the mature tree be dispensed with to make way for a larger footprint? Why replace affordable dwellings with more expensive dwellings and push current residents out of Boroondara? As with the recent Cooloongatta Rd flats, a piece of Boroondara's history would be lost with no discernible benefit to anybody but the developers.
The Council needs to pay more attention to social and affordable housing. There are practical options to renovate solid housing stock that the Council could be encouraging, along with the Victorian Government. Above all, the Council should also take more serious steps to protect Boroondara's heritage.
It’s very sad to see the demise of Boroondara. It is not always the Council, they work within the guidelines (thank god Hon Richard Wynne is retiring he was instrumental in many of the bulldozing of houses) the developers just go to VCAT and it gets passed. Even when the council fight against it.
