Removal of the current unsightly cladding on the Mair St frontage - especially over the ground floor of the 2 storey section is to be welcomed. However to simply replace this with a new facade and to extend the cantilever verandah for a small part of Mair St would represent the loss of an excellent opportunity to reinstate the former post-supported verandah and decorative parapet along the entire frontage in Armstrong St and Mair St as is shown in the photograph [circa 1931] on page 9 of the report from Inception Planning. This form of verandah would complement the verandahs of the adjacent buildings in Mair St as shown in image 6, page 13 of the Inception report, as well as providing protection to pedestrians and to patrons using the outdoor section of the licenced area [as shown on page 21 of the Inception report and also in the image on page 20 of the plans].
