I bought an apartment on The Pier 6/7 because it is such a private, unique and quiet oasis on our spectacular harbour. Our bedrooms face west towards Pier 8/9, with beautiful views of Pier 8/9's historical building, views towards The Crown Casino and stunning scenic views across Sydney Harbour.
I am concerned that the floating structure, namely Walsh Bay Pier 8/9 Marine
Development proposal, which will run parallel to our residential Pier 6/7 with large vessels entering and exiting will increase the swell of the water causing potential damage and increased noise with manoeuvring vessels and navigational hazards especially during high winds and busy periods. The potential loading and unloading of passengers and services, including waste management on these vessels will bring disturbance, additional pollution and increased pedestrian and transport traffic to our tranquil precinct area. Extra foreshore and security lighting and security patrols will cause more visual and privacy impacts. In addition, the "proposed mooring of larger vessels (50m) on the northern end" will cause maximum visual damage to our current views to Sydney harbour.
The statement that "The proposed mooring of boats along the eastern side of Pier 8 within Water Lot 9 is comparable with the ships loading and unloading goods to the wharf when it operated stevedoring facility created by the Sydney Harbour Trust in response to the requirements of maritime trade at the time(1900s-1910s)" is laughable as that time period cannot be compared to what is now a peaceful residential area.
Your development proposal does not seem to take into account the vista/view impact from Pier 6/7's point of view which is very unsettling, but rather from other landmarks in the area and public spaces.
Should this development proceed, the beautiful views and privacy of Pier 6/7 will be significantly impacted in a negative manner and our homes may lose their exclusivity and luxurious peacefulness. I object strongly to this development.
