This CANNOT be allowed to happen
The construction of the Soho Club on the Pullman house site would be a complete travesty to the South Yarra residential area. It’s sheer size and impact on the architecture on the immediate Neighbors is ridiculous and out of style .
Car parking even with another proposed car parking site will spill onto the adjoining already clogged streets .
Not to mention the noise from the proposed 7 day 2 restaurants and night club The daily early collection of rubbish will be a added noise complaint .
This NOT the site for this complex and should be given the “heave-ho”
Surly common sense must prevail and a strong negative outcome .

The proposed works, scale, massing, height and built form will dominate the surrounds and not respond positively to the surrounding context.
The proposed works and use will generate unacceptable acoustic, overlooking, overshadowing and light spill.
The proposed use will dominate the surrounds and not respond positively to the surrounding context.
The proposed works will generate increased volumes and velocity of overland water flows that would inundate adjacent sites and contribute to increased urban flash flooding.
Insufficient information has been provided regarding acoustic, light, odour, traffic and amenity impacts upon neighbouring sites and the public realm.
The proposed works and use will detract from the heritage values of the site and the surrounding sites.
An approval of these works and use would be contrary to the City of Melbourne Planning Scheme and represent an inappropriate planning outcome.
The subject site is upon the southern side of Domain Road among predominantly residential uses and the requirements of the General Residential Zone 5 in the City of Melbourne Planning Scheme include "To allow educational, recreational, religious, community and a limited range of other non-residential uses to serve local community needs in appropriate locations.". Clearly this work and use are contrary to the City of Melbourne Planning Scheme.
The proposed works and use are an overdevelopment of the subject site.
The hours of operation proposed for the intended use would impact adversely the right to suitable amenity, acoustic comfort, right to avoid excessive light source spill and adverse amenity impacts on the neighbourhood and public realm.
I urge the responsible authority to determine the application by way of refusal to grant a permit.
As someone who has been a member of Soho House for nearly 20 years and enjoyed visiting many of their venue around the world, but now resides in Melbourne, I really hope that they can open a venue here.
I understand the concerns of residents nearby, about noise, hours of operation etc, but think the location where the development is proposed is a good choice, and that the development would be a great asset, not just to South Yarra, but to Melbourne as a whole. Soho House is an established organisation and one of high esteem.
I sincerely hope that a mutually acceptable agreement can be reached, between developers and nearby residents, and strongly support this application.
This development of a South Yarra grand family residence into a Soho House Club is completely inappropriate for a residential area. In fact it would ruin this prime residential area for ever. We bought a house in a residential area, not in a nightclub precinct. All drop offs and pick-ups of 480 patrons would be in Domain Road. Punt Road is a 24 hour clearway. Normal pedestrian activity will be impossible, illegal parking will be the norm, traffic congestion will escalate and extend onto the Punt Road intersection and beyond. Excessive noise up to 3am from patrons will be intolerable for neighbours. Staff will be cleaning up till 4am then starting up again at 6am. The idea that Airlie (opposite) is referred to in the application as a commercial conference centre is deceptive on the part of the developers. It is a Victoria Police owned facility, used primarily for educating Police Officers and has virtually no impact on the amenity of South Yarra residents. Soho House members can bring three guests each and often has functions and music events open to non-members. This is no elite private club. It is a free-for-all and it is not the right place for it. A retail or commercial precinct is far more appropriate. What about the CBD? Southbank? Chapel or Church Streets? You are not wanted here and will be staunchly opposed on all fronts.
To the International Soho Member , living in Melbourne ….
I would probably take it that you live somewhere other than the SouthYarra Domain residential District .
You say that it would be an asset to South yarra and Melbourne , really ? To whom ..One of the many reasons for the intended location in
Poolman house is that it’s close to public Transport , again really . If members Pay approximately the $15000 members fee , I truly doubt that they will be on a tram , bus or heaven for bid a train, and walk from the station or tram stop . Increased traffic ,parked in the nearby already tight streets ,and uber and taxis drop off and pickups late night and early mornings add to the noise to Neighbors and as for garbage pickup ….get real !
It’s just too much of a hassle and full of problems for local residents .
Relocate it some where more appropriate ,maybe next to the Soho member .

I have been a guest at SoHo Houses in other cities and the idea is fabulous
BUT..... not in quiet residential South Yarra. We have enough problems with the Punt Road 24 hour clearway and daily peak-hour through-traffic during the week. To then, add more traffic 24/7 from this venue is the start of South Yarra becoming a 24 hour noisy suburb. This area already has issues with noisy patrons leaving Domain Road restaurants. Particularly several drivers rev their high octane cars and dangerously use Domain Road as a speedway for fun especially late at night and on the weekend. The Police are currently monitoring this issue and I can only see more Police Patrols if the venue goes ahead.
Street parking always an issue, particularly since Punt Road became a 24/7 Clearway and Street Parking Permit owners living in Punt Road can now only park in surrounding CoM South Yarra streets. Even using ONE parking spot outside the entrance to venue drop-offs is problematic
It will also be used as a precedent for allowing other commercial development is this residential zone
Keep South Yarra residential. No exception to re-zoning of properties
