The integral part Hustle & Flow plays in the local music community, particularly that of the local hip hop scene, cannot be understated. If it weren't for this establishment, my business, Rah! Records, would not exist. Their growth is reflective of the growth of the local scene and the support they continue to provide to both new and established artists. Being able to expand this establishment will mean the local scene gets a truly world-class venue that will be supported for years to come and bring further good repute to the district.

I started coming here when I lived 50 meters away, and continued even when I moved into other suburbs. Personally, I’ve also formed a lot of meaningful friendships here and really appreciate the team.

This bar is one of those truely upstanding community gathering places. They have been here in Redfern for almost a decade and always getting better. The live music and DJs are always on point. Nigel and the bar staff are also some of the most welcoming and friendly people. I cannot wait until they expand! As a nearby resident, I 100% support this application.

Expanding the operating hours would both benefit the local music scene while boosting a small business. This venue is more then a pub where people go to drink. Hustle and flow is a hub for local musicians and DJs to showcase their art to their listener along with networking with those like minded individuals.

The bar has brought about change in the community. It's an inclusive safe space for people of different cultural backgrounds, and communities. Particularly, those who are of the indigenous and marginalized groups. I love that they support local musicians of different genres and always experimental with the events they deliver over the years. They have also created jobs for people in the area. It has always been a comfortable place for me to relax, eat and enjoy live performances. Boutique bars that have connection to community is vital, especially for Redfern. At a time of immense change, it is important that businesses like Hustle and Flow are supported. As an artist, I know first hand how this venue has supported artists by providing space to share music, and network with other entrepreneurs. I fully support this DA for Hustle & Flow. One thing I love about Hustle & Flow is that it's a locally owned business. Not only do they provide opportunities to showcase First Nations talent, they have also provided employment opportunities for the local First Nations community over the years. The expansion will allow for larger capacity and an opportunity for business growth and further job opportunities.
I have been to Hustle & Flow many times over the years and have always found the staff to be extremely friendly. They ensure all guests have the opportunity to socialise in a safe and inclusive atmosphere, where the talents of multicultural Australia are showcased. I look forward to seeing this expansion in order to support the many artists that will be showcased as well as the joy it will bring to the patrons who will visit and contribute to business growth for the local owners.

I deeply support the expansion of Hustle & Flow bar. It is a safe and inclusive space beyond just a “bar”. Hustle and Flow supports many first nation artists and community members to thrive and feel a sense of belonging in the current climate of the world consisting of disconnection and chaos. Hustle & Flow is an important part of the Redfern community and deserves a larger space to further accomodate and provide a sense of belonging, deep connection, great food and music to the diverse Redfern community.

It’s a safe place and such an great vibe and environment to spend time with mates and also make new friends…I know this being new to the area and Nigel and the team have been more than accommodating!

Support this application entirely. Hustle and flow bar support the arts community through singing, rapping, dancing and musical artistry. I have always felt safe and secure in the premises and they have been respectful to the neighbours and businesses in the area.

It attracts customers around the city and has gained loyalty among people. To matter of the fact that I live just upstairs to the Hustle and Flow, I have never been disturbed by the sound or so!

I strongly support the expansion application of Hustle and Flow on the grounds it will continue to deliver a positive impact on the local economy and enrich the community.

I am a local businessman and am all in favour of the expansion of Hustle and flow. This expansion will add a tremendous amount of positive influence on the local community through its promotion of live bands and emerging indigenous talent.

As a local resident I am voicing my concerns about the expansion plans for Hustle & Flow and do not support this DA.

I live on Redfern Street which along with the surrounding streets is a residential area as well as being a lively night time precinct. I am concerned that approval of this application will create a precedent for all of the other small bars on Redfern Street to be able to operate until 2am.

The current closing time for most licensed premises on Redfern Street is 12am which is what it was when we moved into the area. This already results in an enormous amount of noise on the street at closing time making it extremely difficult for us to get to sleep before midnight. (I currently have to use ear plugs on weekend nights to sleep and am still woken up by loud voices on the street after midnight.) Extending the premises of trading hours the 'Hustle & Flow' premises into tenancy 2 with proposed operating hours of 11.00am - 2.00am would mean that the noise from people exiting could continue until well after 3am and could detrimentally affect residents’ sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation will in turn negatively impact our health and well-being. This is unacceptable to us as residents.

In addition, we have noted on several occasions since venues have reopened that there has been an increase in vomiting and urinating on the street. I have been woken up by this and seen it happen from my bedroom window which faces the street.

In the event that this DA is approved we request that the venue be required to have a Plan of Management to ensure that their patrons behave in a way that does not disturb residents when entering and exiting the premises, this should include signage and a dedicated staff member to monitor noise outside the premises and the cleaning up of vomit or urine on the street or in the front yards of residences resulting from patrons relieving themselves after leaving their premises. We also request that the venue be required to a) maintain a Register of Complaints; b) provide residents with the contact phone number of the person to call if there is excessive noise or any other issues with patrons exiting the premises in the early hours of the morning; c) meet with the Strata Executive Committees of the residential buildings in their immediate vicinity on a quarterly basis to resolve any issues.

I fully support the expansion of Hustle and Flow. As a more senior local resident I have spent many an enjoyable time here. It is a friendly and safe place for people of all ages to experience great music, have a dance, burger and a cocktail or two.
Looking at the plan it appears that there will be a better layout of spaces for dancing or just sitting and enjoying the atmosphere.

Everything about this venue should be supported. It is an artistic and cultural hub in a city that’s currently falling short. The more that can be done to encourage the expansion of this institution, the better the local scene and it’s peoples will be for it.
