I think this would much better suit a fresh fruit/veg market, support some local businesses. KFC Ocean Grove gets the business from this area, we don’t need another one. With growing Melbourne population with the money to spend on fresh, good quality food we are much better off supporting our local community, if people want fast food, they can go to our local Chinese shop, Pa’s place, or Ocean Grove, we don’t need it!

  2. Denise Vardy commented

I moved here in the early nineties. When we went under Geelong council the rule was to keep any fast foods out, and support local businesses. Shame, Shame,if this happens.

  3. Sarah Baker commented

We need to support local & healthy before big business.
We desperately need a fresh Fruit & Vegetable outlet again. We lost ours 10 years ago.
To get other than supermarket, over picked & hugely over priced produce we have to go to Leopold or into Geelong.

Our community is constantly growing and in need of this.

  4. Jessica commented

Great idea, offering more employment opportunities for youth in the area. The area is booming in the North Bellarine area and bringing food home to eat from Ocean Grove is usually cold and soggy from the 25min drive! A 10min drive instead would be ideal!

  5. Pat Smith commented

No KFC here. We want to keep the small village feel, and support our locals who are in the food business.

  6. Indi commented

Great idea, Ocean Grove is too far to travel just to get some chicken and will be great for employment for kids, will be good to get a snack quickly and accessible to the whole bellarine

  7. Prue commented

It would be great to have more fast food options. Ocean Grove is too far away for many. We realistically have no options than pizza, fish n chips, Chinese, Indian (and who can’t cook most of this at home!). It’s not ok to keep building houses and living and not provide more amenities and options! Even a Subway or something. Not another McDonalds for goodness sake. They’re everywhere. There a few KFC restaurants around really.

    Did someone say KFC !!
    I don’t care I love it 🍗🍗🍗🍗🍟🍟🍟🍟

  9. Gary Watson commented

A terrible idea. This is in no way in keeping with the village environment that makes this a wonderful place and a beautiful home. There are plenty of fast food options here, and there are several major franchised choices within a 10 minute drive. Please preserve what we have left, and concentrate on supporting businesses that match the location.

  10. Brendan Nicholls commented

A great addition. Away from local competitors and close to the bypass. Good for jobs. Ocean Grove used to be a short trip now it takes 25 min one way.

  11. Ida Frank commented

KFC could mean employment for young people in the area think it’s a good idea
If you want fresh fruit and vegetables you can grow them like we do or there is a farm in Bluff Road and weekly markets, plenty of fruit and veg at the supermarkets and have plenty of them around the area.

  12. Deb Jayne commented

This is great! For everyone saying support local - this will employ many local young people - a far greater number than one fruit/veg market could employ. And Council didn’t go offering people the chance to open a KFC - someone has applied to build a KFC, but no one has applied to Council for a permit to open a fruit and vegetable shop. The town is so big now, it is no longer a village, and no matter how much people wish it could be like it used to be, it will never go back to being a village. Times have changed, that’s progress.

Drysdale has been developing for years now, people end up going to the new businesses family owned or retail chains inevitably out of curiosity or prior knowledge and there's a reason I reckon first experiences and good service/quality should matter if businesses are overpriced or low quality low service ect in most cases, they will no longer exist in most cases, we've seen it happen multiple times now if it brings actual business, jobs and an overall better experience to the customer possibly forcing businesses that aren't at level to provide better service/quality especially long-term it's only really going to be inevitable everyone's heard whispers in the wind of subway and a Macca's but this is actually possible and really needed

  14. Daniel commented

I understand the local sentiment in regards to keeping a large food chains out, however as the area grows it would be good to see this type of amenity established. Jobs would be created and money that money would stay in the community as it employs youth and locals.
I can’t see this negatively impacting Drysdale at all!!

  15. Jake Callaghan commented

    Great idea we’ll done need
More of it mcDonalds , hungry jacks ,subway, creates jobs and competition more the merrier

  16. James Styles commented

It would be Better if we had a Subway Franchise as well as a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Market on the Right Side of Town.

  17. Paris commented

Would be awesome for the locals and bring more jobs. Especially for the local children.

  18. Elizabeth Wilson commented

No ask any nutrition expert. Fresh fruit and veg, imaginative marketing of same. People paid and planned for village atmosphere, not fair to change later. Will attract young people in fast cars.

  19. Adam commented

Great Idea - Creates jobs for the younger ones, helps them develop teamwork, punctuality and work ethic!

  20. Betty Bee commented

To late for village atmosphere, that was taken away, when they decided to tear, up our village GREEN. To build a lovely, concrete lump of a library ,which will completely take away village atmosphere, and that is right in the middle of town. I’m not a person that eat KFC,but I think it a great idea,it will create jobs for our young people, and it may make our cafes and takeaway’s pull they socks up.

Drysdale does not need a KFC. If people want junk food from multinationals then McDonalds is 10 minutes away in Leopold. The KFC in Ocean Grove is also only 10 minutes away with a larger population that quadruples in summer. Drysdale is not a tourist town. It is a small town that unfortunately the COGG keeps approving further housing development of matchbox sized lots. By allowing these big multinationals into our small towns it is turning them into suburbs that people have tried to escape from in Melbourne. We are losing our small town identity. I would much rather see a business that employs locals and keeps the money in the community than see it go to a big conglomerate. Please do not approve this.

The proposal is contrary to Clause 43.02 and Schedule 32 of the Design and Development Overlay of the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.

The proposal is contrary to Clause 43.02-6 Decision Guidelines of the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.

The proposed height, scale, massing, scale, building materials and colour of finishes will dominate the surrounds and not respond positively to the surrounding context.

The proposal dominates the streetscape and is contrary to the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme which among other matters calls for subservience of structures and use to the streetscape in this site.

The proposal does not respond positively to the neighbourhood and emerging character of the surrounds.

The proposed setbacks and lighting will dominate the surrounds and not respond positively to the surrounding context.

The proposal fails to respond to the offsite amenity of the surrounds and public realm, resulting in unreasonable visual bulk.

The use of electronic ordering devices after sunset and before sunrise will contribute to excessive noise and adverse surrounding amenity impacts.

The use, structures, drive through operation and extent of Carparking are of a scale and intensity that will result in unreasonable amenity impacts upon the surrounding sites and public realm.

The built form demonstrates a lack of integration with the context.

The proposal does not adequately respond to the topography of the site and surrounds.

The scale, lack of setbacks and lack of landscaping all contribute to an overdevelopment of the subject site.

The proposed use and development, having regard to the site and surrounding area, would represent an inappropriate planning outcome.

The proposal does not contemplate contemporary best practices in stormwater disposal and water sensitive urban design.

The hours of operation sought for the subject site will adversely impact upon the amenity of the surrounding community and public realm.

Insufficient information has been provided regarding ongoing waste disposal management and dealing with issues of odour, birds gathering, and vermin.

The proposal will alter the direction, volume and velocity of overland water flows.

Insufficient information has been provided regarding ongoing management of motor traffic generated by the proposal.

The proposal will generate excessive motor vehicle traffic which will have unacceptable amenity impacts upon the surrounding community and public realm.

I urge the responsible authority to refuse to grant a permit.

YES BRING IT! when is it happening we are already going into July. While they are at it can we get a oportos as well NOW that would be awesome!

  24. James commented

You can't stop progress however most KFC stores operate with little or no cleaning during business hours. There tables and seating are mostly left with prior customers left overs scattered all over the place. KFC workplace practices don't include keeping a clean and sanitized eating venue. The store will provide jobs for the youth, however they must be trained properly and council must police the cleanliness of the premises within food and drink licensing regulations.

  25. Prue commented

It will be good to get some competition for other food outlets in Drysdale. The people of Drysdale and Clifton Springs are currently paying way more than other areas because there is a lack of competition. We have been overcharged for product for years.

I think KFC would be a great addition around here i feel it would provide alot of jobs, and yummy food of course!!
