This building is a heritage status building. The development that has been done without planning and building permits has totally ruined the look of this building. In regards to the fact that it is suppose to be an example of an early 1900’s shop and dwelling. It now looks like a mess with a coolroom added on and a verandah. There is a builders shed, aluminium windows with exposed modern lintels. There are also solar panels everywhere. This is normally a good thing but not on a heritage building. If they were hidden by parapets it wouldn’t matter as much. There has been a garbage enclosure and galvanised shed added as well. The total site is covered by its heritage stas not just the facade. If you walk up or down Main road or even along Franklin Street you can’t help seeing all these problems. The neighbours must be pulling their hair out. The planning act states that councils aren’t allowed to let development of a heritage building be effected by too much development. A permit should not be granted for any of the works done without planning or building permits in my opinion. Let’s keep The old police station along with the old court house along with this early 1900,s shop and dwelling protected as this use to be Eltham central at that time of our history. Let’s hope the planning department stays strong in regards to these matters. Everything I have written is my option only.

I agree
Zen den Is doing all it can to help their business without understanding it's a heritage building that must be protected and any works that have been done with no permits must be demolished
Save our heritage councillors

This cafe shouldn't be developed any further, it's messy, unhygenic and a potential covid hotspot where maskless people gather. The increasing foot and car traffic is affecting nearby ammenities and residents' enjoyment of their properties. As a local resident I object to any more alcohol licensing as there are ample licensed businesses in the surrounds already. A daytime cafe should not need to supply alcohol, it brings the wrong crowd to our village.
