This building is an important part of the streetscape in George Street North and should be protected not destroyed. Too much of Sydney has been either wiped away or disfigured beyond belief. The Rocks should be, as it was in the past, a well looked after area, reflecting the early years of our European heritage and protecting the vestiges of both the Indigenous and European history in the area for both Australians and the many visitors from overseas who have read about the area or seen it on film or tv. Government at all levels should see beyond financial gain and consider their roles as protectors of our past history as well as being responsible for our future history. Think about the mistakes made in the past that are still a blot on Sydney’s landscape. The old NSW Bank should be retained. It is a pity that the photo above shows the building masked by stalls.
