Description

The application seeks consent to demolish all buildings, structures and vegetation on the subject land, known as 129-133 Sale Street, Orange. The subject land contains Caldwell House (former nurses quarters) (which is a local Heritage Item listed under Orange LEP 2011) and the more recent nurses quarters on the corner of Sale and Dalton Streets. The buildings have been vacant for a number of years and have been neglected in more recent times. Over the course of the last decade or so the buildings have been subject to numerous break and enters, with perpetrators searching for copper wire and other materials of value left in the buildings upon them being vacated. In the process of illegally obtaining the copper wire and other material, friable asbestos has been disturbed and has been distributed throughout the buildings.
