Went to Gannon Park yesterday for a walk and was very disappointed. There are no walking paths, the ground is wet and soggy and I could not walk at all on the slope paths of which there are 2 because of the mud and sludge. I looked at the children’s play ground to see what my grandson could use. There are a couple of swings and a fixed train which he could walk on. Hardly inspiring for him to visit! I recall seeing lots of playground upgrades in the Ryde area however this one is very disappointing. The area is a lovely one and locals deserve having a decently upgraded area to use for picnics or for the children to play on new and exciting children’s equipment. I do recall there was going to be an upgrade however this development application is for lighting only. When is the whole park going to be upgraded to the extent of other parks in Ryde.

The 22 metre high light poles planned for this area is absurd. As a local these will be at the hight of many houses currently situated on Boyce Street, directly seen through premises and on the same level as bedrooms etc and a complete obstruction of views. With lights planned to stay on until 9:30 at night this will be a complete change to the current environment. The height of these lights will tower over houses, look unsightly and destroy the current green environmental of this park which has been enjoyed by many locals and local schools for years.
