I don’t see how parking cannot be provided in the Chapel Street for an events Centre.

You have got to be joking!
We are sick and tired of the owner of 48 Commercial Road changing his mind about what his land will be used for. We certainly will not approve of it being a function centre when it's in a residential area and backs onto our houses 5m away!
The initial submission was for a café. Then restaurant and bar. Then he applied for a liquor licence.
Then he submitted an extension on the building works because he's done nothing about it the past 17 months, and turned it into a plant shop last year.
Now he's put in a planning permit to turn it into a function centre?!
He has told a few of us over the past 6 months he's going to do Bollywood Weddings there.
Last month he actually had a wedding there (breaking all the Council & Liquor Licensing rules), which had loud music during the day & night. In the daytime the guests were standing in the lane, smoking and drinking beside our houses on the lane.
Now a request for a function centre?! I DON'T THINK SO.
A function centre is inappropriate for that position along Commercial Rd. It is very close to residential premises, with noise coming from the function centre a huge factor. In any event onsite parking is a must with that sort of venue. It is always difficult to try to find a place to park in our streets now, and it is very far fetched to think that patrons to the venue centre will travel there by tram/train. The parking issue alone should be enough to dismiss this application.
