To : Councilors of Holdfast Bay
I am a concerned neighbour of this property.
I have been for 27 years, prior to this my grandparents who lived there around the same amount of years. As a young child this was always a lovely place to come to having the trees basically in your backyard.

So everyday I am lucky enough to be woken by the hundreds of birds that call this property their home, every morning is different in the afternoon any time of day they are just loving it here, the different sounds of so many species, one day the crows are going off, another might be the magpies with their beautiful sound, its like an Orchestra (you know that combination of instruments from different bird families) every single day of the year. Please you are more than welcome to come and visit to listen because it is really beautiful.

I will also say in my experience of living next door this property is beautiful canopy of trees, this is something we should be proud of as a community that its just there for everyone to see, listen and enjoy.

As we know and have become more aware of climate change/ pollutants and that this property has an excellent example of canopy for shade and to keeping properties cool in summer (including mine and all the other neighbour's) and this is rare in suburbs, these trees must be around the 100 year mark.

The property has been also the home to the Burbook Owls which are often heard very early hours in the morning, there is also an abundance of so much birdlife, plus bees, possums, lizards etc.
Some more reasons..............
* The trees are Cooling and Greengage does make of our beautiful suburb Brighton.
* Adelaide is getting hotter and drier, we need these mature trees for our environment
* Amazing Eco-System of plants, wildlife, birds, bees etc
* Trees and beautiful spaces are especially great for people with Mental health issues
* The community and environment needs trees for shade and keeping cool
* We need a vision of this property, something that blends in with the community not a total destruction and exploitation.
* Overcrowding in Suburbs, in the last 10 years we all have seen the development of houses, streets are filling with cars, we are losing our beauty, this property would be 28 houses, with a total of 56 car parking plus extra parks, plus each house having 2 or more air conditioners, plus 56 council bins each week
* Noise pollution would just be increased, by more people, more cars, no trees

On the Holdfast Bay council website you have about Tree Canopy and the benefits ;

* Supporting health and wellbeing
* cleaning water, air and soil
* holding cultural and historical significance
* UV protection
* uptake of carbon dioxide thus helping to reduce the effects of climate change
* increasing property values
* muffling sounds
* contributing to good mental health
* habitat for wildlife
* contributing to a liveable city
* providing cool shade on hot days
* water vapour released by trees helps to further cool the air
* tree shade helps with energy savings in buildings
* providing soothing greenness and beauty
* adding character to our neighbourhoods

Also under the climate ready southern Adelaide (from the Holdfast Bay Webpage link)
it states....
Resilient South - Climate Ready Southern Adelaide
Resilient South is about strengthening southern Adelaide so that our businesses, communities and environments can bounce back from the challenges of climate change, and stay productive, connected, and strong. The impacts of a changing climate are already being felt across southern Adelaide. Even if we achieve a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation), some changes to our climate are already locked in. This means that we also need to prepare and respond to the impacts from a changing climate (adaptation).

The most recent Special Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) makes it clear that:

- Under current policies, we are on track for between 3.3 and 3.9°C of warming

- We must limit warming to 1.5°C to avoid the worst impacts of climate change

- Anything above 2°C will result in catastrophic changes

- We have 32 years to decarbonise the entire global economy

- There is still time to take action, but we must act now.

NATURAL LANDSCAPES -Maintain habitat values in non- conservation areas

By today 15/3/2021 over 3600 people have signed the Change.org site to save the trees and it is growing daily, reading the comments, everyone is just completely against this type of development, people are fed up with what is being done in the community, they want to have these absolutely incredible trees saved from destruction, for the future generations of this planet, for the children. It just looks like a big money making for the council and the building developer who also has no interest in our area, no interest in what this historical property means to people, they have no interest in the destruction of the area, they have no interest in what the community are asking, to most it just shows greed.

Please see link to the petition and read the comments

The people are speaking to you and we need and want to be listened, we have a right to protect and we want to protect this property, no one wants a concrete jungle, a hot house of quickly built homes that all look the same, have no character and no trees.

These trees are nothing but magnificent, they stand out for their height and beauty, cutting them down is not the right thing to do, protect them, they are protecting us. Its their home too.

Thank you for listening, and I / we the community hope for the best outcome for Brighton, Adelaide and South Australia. (and the trees and wildlife)

There was a problem delivering this to City of Holdfast Bay

Please do not allow developers to remove the significant trees at 28 Brighton Rd. They are vital for the survival of many birds, bees and other flora and fauna.

Please, please save 28 Sturt Road. How much more do we have to lose in the seemingly mad quest for ‘progress and development?’
Consider the trees and animals and the breath they give to our community. Heritage, environment, character, history.
Don’t forsake it for concrete, please!

As a community, I cannot understand how we can be contemplating the development and tree removal of this prime opportunity to retain open space. This goes against so many Commonwealth, State and local Government plans and strategies to combat climate change, strengthen climate resilience, preserve species and habitat, preserve urban greening, preserve green canopies etc. Surely the most wise move Council could make with this once in a lifetime to retain open space would be to work with State Government to turn the property into an urban park. Once this goes, its gone forever.

Surely a large proportion of these trees are significant trees and should be protected
