As a long term resident I fail to see how the over development of land for the use by any individual group within the wider community is acceptable in 2021. Lets think wider will it be a child care/health care and perhaps an arts precinct for all artists . The additional vehicular traffic, pedestrian and transport footprint is already stretching parking ,access and streetscape with little regard to what is needed in the community versus what developers wish to build and make a profit. Is this development like others actually required , what facilities already exist and current usage. How many supermarkets sub standard 55 sqm apartments and trinkets shops are needed or wanted in the strip and no doubt the vitriol will come back thick and fast. Another tower in Elsternwick I hope the voice of the dissenting Woolworths group who did such a great job are equally on to this

This is already overcrowded area with school drop in and pickup, museum and school event hall with no parking available. What residential towers, supermarket and cafe could be add to this mess? How someone could come with this idea to make it even harder for our children and their parents, grandparents in the name of the Profit to increase the traffic and density around school and kindergarten. Leave the area to our kids not the developers who don't care about anything just.
I am in total agreement with the previous 2 contributors. I too am a long term, rate-paying resident of this locale, and I am appalled at this/these completely unacceptable proposal(s). The lack of street parking in this vicinity has already reached a point whereby anger management initiatives are required to placate both those looking for parking and those who reside in the area, on a daily basis. Surely council must be cognisant of the brewing discontent, if they are not, then there is something seriously wrong with council. If in the long term a supermarket chain is given approval to construct an unnecessary and unwanted edifice in this street, together with the outrageous multi-storey proposal at 7 Selwyn Street that, unbelievably, proposes NO parking facilities whatsoever, then the so-called 'Elsternwick Village' concept is lost forever to the greedy developers and to the absolute contemptuous disregard for all the long term, rate-paying, and to this point, law-abiding citizens in the area. And not just this area; once the metaphoric 'foot' has forced open the metaphoric door, it will be virtually impossible to remove 'it', in ALL parts of the City of Glen Eira, at least.
