I would like to know, is it going to be a Dan Murphy ' s or a BWS bottleshop, I live in the area do we really need another bottleshop.

  2. Kathryn wallis commented

I don’t want another bottleshop. We already have too many - it’s wrong

  3. Errol Stubblety commented

There are two bottle shops in Black Rock shopping village. There are no grounds in any town planning regulations to justify a third. The application should be declined.

Another bottle shop is not required, the road can also simply not take the traffic. Happy to support local and the friendly faces at the bottle shops we currently have in black rock !

  6. J Kelly commented

No to another bottle shop, let local businesses thrive, no one wants this. What are we teaching our children when on every corner there is a bottle shop.

  7. Lisa Perks commented

Totally no need for another bottle shop, especially one that belongs to a large supermarket chain. It will ruin business for the existing independent bottle shop. I will not support it at all.

  8. Kennedy O'Brien commented

There is no need for a Woolworths owned Dan Murphy's at 40 Bluff Road.

Bayside City Council should be prioritising the health and growth of local businesses (Red Bluff Cellars, Black Rock Cellars etc). Especially given the state of our economy and the position small businesses presently find themselves in.

Another issue is parking and safety for local residents and their children.

  9. Madeleine Frawley commented

We do not need another bottle shop. We have plenty. Furthermore, it will grid lock the street, there is insufficient parking, and will diminish the character of black rock village.

The next Dan murphies is in the next suburb?! Why would we need a Dan murphies in every suburb? Is it purely to compete with the family owned boutique bottle shops in black rock? This business strategy is deplorable and unaustralian.

  10. Lauren Dale-Hooper commented

There are currently 3 bottle shops in the Black Rock Village another is not needed. Support small business. Parking is already limited as it is. This makes no sense.

  11. Sigrid Trajer commented

Bringing an additional liquor store to the Black Rock shops is completely unnecessary as there are two others that are independantly owned. A large chain bottle shop will only undercut the prices of the existing traders which sadly will result in forced closures.
Please consider rejecting the application to maintain the integrity of the Village we are part of.

There is already a Dan Murphy business in Bay Rd, and another so close to a couple of small private bottle shops in black Rock, could lead to them being unprofitable and unable to compete , accordingly handing over a virtual monopoly of this area.
We believe Black Rock area is already well and truly looked after by the existing operators and the application should be rejected on this occasion.
There also appears to be minimal parking available to suit such a venture.

Another Alcohol outlet in our tiny village is complete overkill. It also hinders the local bottle shops already there. 3 is more than enough, we definitely do not need a 4th. I will continue to support my established locals.
This must not be allowed to proceed.

  14. Simon Ross commented

Long term BR resident. Great to see the big supermarkets getting involved in the village! This is fantastic! Some competition for the local inflated prices!! Well done WW. 100% supportive!

  15. Paul James commented

I reiterate the points that others have made, with the exception of Simon Ross. Black Rock Village already has 3 bottle-shops and a large Dan Murphy's already exists only 4.1kms from this new proposed site. You can not tell me that Dan Murphy's customers or anyone living in Black Rock or even Beaumaris is refusing to drive up to Dan Murphy's in Bay Road or the Woolworths owned BWS in Mentone because it is too far and requires a Dan Murphy's in Black Rock.

Quaint suburbs such as Black Rock should be immune from Big Box stores, particularly ones that promotes the consumption of alcohol and causes numerous social and economic issues in our society. To anyone saying a fourth bottle shop in Black Rock is really that necessary or that they won't attend the Dan Murphy's only 4.1km from this proposed site is being nothing short but contrite.

3 packaged liquor shops already in small village. Impact of 4 th !( Dan Murphy's) will adversely affect the parking, foot fall and overall mix of shops that currently make up a small seaside village ambiance. Overwhelming public rejection for this proposal. BRock is already well served. This outlet will add unecessary extra alcohol provision in a small area. Not welcome in any way.The current bottle shops give a good service to BRock and an additional big business provider will eventually force them out of business by their cost cutting ability, leaving them with a monopoly. This appears to be Endeavours long game plan. A boutique village's ambiance will be irreversibly changed. The residents of this village are content with its current ambiance and shopping provision. No more please!

We DON'T need Dan Murphy's in this lovely bayside village. It's bad enough that Woolworths was allowed in. There are already several little bottle shops. What BR needs is a decent deli.

  18. Melissa Brown commented

This is a terrible idea. Promoting more alcohol to children and families in a tiny village area and destroying small local businesses already doing it tough. These large supermarket bottle shops should be left on the highway. I will not support this type of business in black rock or any council that approves it.

  19. Kathryn wallis commented

I am against another liquor outlet in Black Rock. We already have enough to serve the community. Put in a bulk food store like The Source or something that will add retail diversity to the village. We certainly do not need more alcohol retail.

  20. James Mirams commented

This is a very bad idea. We already have a Dan murphy in Cheltenham. It’s pointless other than to destroy small business. It’s a disgrace from Dan Murphy and should not be given any consideration from the council.

Very disappointed to hear that this development is being reconsidered in June 2022 after being previously rejected. We DO NOT need another bottle shop in Black Rock, and I echo the sentiment from other residents about adverse effects such as parking, footfall on already eroded paths, impact on small local family businesses and an existing 4 bottle shops within 150 metres. There is already a huge Dan Murphys store on Bay Rd right around the corner…. cannot understand why putting one at 40 Bluff Road makes any sense??!!?? Lack of parking sees all side streets Bluff Rd and Balcombe Rd already congested (summer is the worst when this combines with beach goers), this proposed development has not been thought through especially how it will negatively impact our local community.

  23. Nathan Droge commented

This is not needed. We already have bottle shops in this strip

  24. Errol Stubblety commented

There are currently two stand alone “bottle shops” plus a licensed grocer in Black Rock Village shopping area.
The grant of approval for a fourth packaged liquor outlet in a suburb with a little over 6000 residents (2016 census) would be borderline corruption by whichever government body or court made such a grant.
Endeavour Group own Dan Murphy’s and BWS liquor and either own or lease the site at 40 Bluff Road, and it was their business decision to move theMetro store across the road. They are big business and must absorb the cost of the empty store at 40 Bluff Road, not recoup their losses by forcing locals to accept an unnecessary and unwanted fourth packaged liquor outlet.
The car park next to the Woolworths Metro is always full and the car park next to 40 Bluff Road already Carrie’s the overflow from the Metro store.
A liquor outlet at 40 Bluff Road would create hundreds of extra car parking movements each day in an already very busy area.
Any application for a big box style store must surely be rejected.

  25. Allan Green commented

I completely object to the proposed Dan Murphy's development in Black Rock Village. The authenticity of the village is in direct threat to this proposed planning application and should be be strongly rejected. The area already hosts three independent bottle shops that are congruent to the area. The authenticity of the Black rock village is now at risk of such developments and are a significant concern to the local residents. Similar developments of Acland Street St.Kilda over the last decade have forever damaged the unique characteristics of the street, and as a local resident, I am concerned that Black Rock will now follow a similar path.

  26. Renee Glasson commented

I object to this application, given the are is sufficiently services by packaged liquor outlets as well as a variety of restaurants/cafes and bars which also serve on the premises.
This application is not in keeping with the Council's vision for the Black Rock Village and should be rejected for a second time. If approved this will damage the local appeal of the shopping precinct through increased traffic, increased take away liquor sales and potentially exacerbate the existing issue of teenage drinking and parties in the beachside park and foreshore.
Diversity of the retail offerings should be considered in line with the Council's vision for the village and well-being and wishes of the community.
    This application should be rejected.

  27. Jonathan Cawley commented

I concur with the vast majority of comments made above - we simply do not need additional alcohol suppliers in our village, we are well serviced already.
I fail to see why this issue has resurfaced as council made the correct decision two years ago. There are no valid arguments - at least I've not heard any - of a reason to grant this permit. Please council do the right thing and reject this application.
