Croydon Conservation Society questions this application, especially as this property only changed hands in December 2019. We wonder if the new owners were made fully aware of the importance and significance of the land and vegetation on which this house is built. From Google, it appears that there are both skeletonised trees and very dry, sparsely leafed trees towards the front of the property, which is out of character for other trees in the vicinity, both at the rear and on the properties of both side neighbours.
Of course the health of the trees in question is vital to this application, and if removal is required due to death or disease, that the requirement for established mature trees to be planted in similar locations be enforced and monitored. Maroondah Council's Planning scheme, has this land assigned the status of being under the two controls, the Significant Landscape overlay and Environment Protection overlay.
We would object in principle to this number of trees being removed, so we ask that Council send out a qualified arborist to independently assess and test of necessary, the trees in question. If the trees are to be removed, we suggest that the neighbours be advised of this activity and the requirement for replacement and on going Council inspection to ensure viability and longevity.
