Can’t believe they would still even consider this development. That land should never of been rezoned, the decision should be overturned and the land returned back to recreational use. The Dodgy government at the time this decision was made have been sacked and any decisions they made during their time in government should be immediately over turned. Not to mention the environmental impact, the lack of infrastructure, the Fire and flood risk, the congestion of Henry Lawson Drive, the loss of wildlife as it’s habitat is destroyed (sad considering we already just lost so much). This is the dumbest idea council have had for a long time.

Consideration should be given to the land that inundated by the most recent flood to be excluded from any type of development other than public use.

They want me to be ‘polite’ when writing this but they don’t seem to listen to us locals about what a mitigated disaster this would be to our community and local areas. Did the recent floods not do anything to sway your minds or does greed triumph all? I am sick that this is going ahead. We do not have the infrastructure to accomodate hundredS of new homes and vehicles. Our schools are stretched. Our wildlife has already taken a hit. The adjacent suburbs are already congested and overly built up. Revesby and Panania are cramped. How long will it take to get out of Raleigh and pozieres? It was a disaster enough when Milperra and Newbridge Roads were closed, now you want to add hundreds of homes with only one exit (pozieres) when it floods? And two other exits that are crap to get out of at peak hour and onto HLD in general? We have crap public transport and the car parks are full at the stations. You want Mirvac to come in and turn our area Into slums With their ugly and uniformed designs with recreation resources that locals may not be able to use? Both side of Milperra are planning to be developed, not to mention the new airport and marina and you think extending HLD by one lane will suffice? Clearly none of you are locals.

And you want me to be polite?

Why aren’t you listening? We don’t want this. Make it recreational if necessary but no more housing. Enough is enough.

Due to the recent flooding in the area, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Why are they allowed to build on flood zone land? We saw first hand what the development of flower power did to the flow of water around it! Neighbouring blocks of land were inundated with flood water! Traffic in the area is horrendous and this is just allowing more traffic to congest our roads. Shame on any councillor who thinks that this development should go ahead. The residents of Milperra have been extremely vocal about this development for many years now but no one is listening or doing anything about it. Feel like council has turned its back on the residents of Milperra.

-Riverlands Flood Study and Evacuation Plan April 2012 by BMT WBM States:
"Under current evacuation procedures and standard timeframes, neither existing residents, nor future residents of the Riverlands development can be evacuated during extreme flood events such as the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF)."

-Keys Parade extension will be and flooded and cuts off proposed Riverlands residents routs in 1:20 flood event.

    - Flooding of Georges River and surrounds 9-10th February 2020:
*Intersection Henry lawson Drive and Newbridge Road was flooded and closed.
*Milperra/Newbridge Road flooded and closed between River Road and Sheridan Close.
    *Keys Parade flooded and closed

-Evacuation issued to residents surrounding Riverlands Golf Course
    *Prescott Parade
    *Keys Parade
    *Raleigh Road
    *Poziers Ave
    *Links Avenue
    *and more
-This was a 1:20 flood event, we are DUE for a 1:100 flood event.

This fact that this development was even considered is laughable. For it to be at this stage is disgraceful.
I do not know of too many if any local residents wanting this to occur.
The current traffic situation is on most days horrendous. The volume of cars utilising the main arterial roads like Henry Lawson Drive, Milperra Rd, Newbridge Rd and the M5 will only seek to cause more delays. The area is a flood zone. Only days ago this whole area was under at least a metre if not more of water. How do the developers propose to change this aspect of nature? Any actions will affect the current natural water course and will then likely affect residents homes who might not have been previously impacted. An example of this is the new Flower Power which was built up higher that the surrounding area next to a storm water channel and greatly impacted the surrounding houses when the area recently flooded.
Please think of the needs of the many rather than wealth of the few.

The area is a flood zone. No amount of remediation work would ever make this land suitable for building. The land should stay as recreational use. The area also faces significant congestion and high levels of protected plants and animals.

    Please block this proposal.

is anyone really surprised by council and government decisions regarding this once lovely suburb Milperra?. This was a family friendly safe area, has now become either of these . Due to expansion of industry ,m5 , Duplexes etc we are now all suffering . Our streets are so congested with cars parked on both sides at times difficult to even drive through safely. With further developments of the once lovely golf course, university to residential , part of Bankstown golf course for retirement village etc . The traffic now is so bad at times at the round about Ashford and bullencourt comes to a complete stand still, let alone congestion on Henry Lawson drive so dangerous to all . The recent floods should surely make the planners realise this area totally unsuitable for all these developments . Please can common sense come first instead and greed .

We are all seriously concerned about the impact this development will have on the local community. The risk to public safety was clearly on display when flooding occurred only a week ago. This development will our not only place new residents lives at risk, but also existing families. Additional hard surfaces will only intensify future floods, and increased local population will make escape and evacuation even more fraught. Please do not go ahead with this. Thank you.

This month, February 2020 the George’s River and local creeks once again flooded areas on both sides of the river. Man has not been able to prevent these natural disasters from occurring in Milperra where there are also the ponds in Newland Ave and Kelso Park, George’s Hall, Chipping Norton, East Hills, Panania, Picnic PointHolsworthy etc. Milperra and Newbridge Roads, Henry Lawson Drive, Raleigh Rd etc and the bridges were all closed to traffic.
Flood mitigation needs huge improvements and the scheme needs to be proved over many years before it is considered a success. The residents of this area rate previous attempts as failures.
Allowing the proposed extension of Keys Parade to enable development on the flood prone land in Milperra, will have a catastrophic impact on the safety of residents, motorists and SES rescuers in the near future.
As stated in the media, this month’s flooding was more severe than that of the late eighties. Evacuation orders were sent to hundreds of people in streets which flooded as a result of the elevated new Flower Power site. People were terrified for the safety of their family and friends. I believe this was a one in twenty flood but next time it could be even worse.
A drive around the impacted suburbs shows the degree of destruction of property, boats, cars, buildings and personal belongings. Rubbish is piled up outside houses. Debris and junk clings to the high wire fences eg along the golf course in George’s Hall. Trees have been uprooted. Mud has inundated houses and garages when the river reached about 5 metres in the early hours of the Monday morning 10/02/2020. Schools were closed, residents unable to exit or enter except by M5 or Bullecourt Ave. Residents are still unable to get repairs dealt with by insurance companies to get their homes back to normal.
Unfortunately the land known as Keys Parade is not suitable for elevation and use as a main entrance and exit to the proposed development of any of the land formerly known as Riverlands Golf Course or 56 Prescott Ave Milperra. The proposed changes will cause traffic to bank up all along Henry Lawson and other secondary roads and cause anger and frustration to drivers. Residents exiting Raleigh Rd will find it impossible to exit onto Henry Lawson Drive safely.
The locals need to be listened to NOW as they have experienced the impact of floods, traffic congestion and volume of traffic increases in this area.
Traffic congestion has increased on Henry Lawson Drive due to the M5 and Flower Power. Heavy transport is a problem as shown by a severe accident that occurred recently. Residents are delayed when accessing Henry Lawson Drive now. The proposed road improvements will attract more traffic to our area and impact on the safety of residents.

How can this even be considered keys parade is on a flood plane the Riverlands golf course site is a flood plane we saw in the recent floods that they were worse than ever as the new flower power site is built up so high which has now created a new watercourse.

Milperra residents don’t won’t any more development in the area we are a happy peaceful suburb and want to keep it this way.

Big developers think they can just build with no consideration for local residents

This will create an influx of traffic as well for poziers and Raleigh Roads which already struggle in peak to turn onto Henry Lawson drive.

    Regards

For roads on this floodplain to be viable they will have to be raised well above the 1:100 year flood level, probably to the level they have built up the Flower Power site. This will require massive amounts of imported fill and landscape modifications that will interfere with the natural drainage functions of the floodplain. To do this is simply foolhardy.

-According to the Milperra Topographic Map the elevation levels of proposed development of Keys Parade ranges from 5-10m.
-According to Bom's recording of River Height data for Georges River at Milperra, the water level had reached 5.27m at 03:44am on 10th February 2020.
-Future Keys Parade will be inundated in a 1:20 flood event.

Green and Golden Bell Frog Breeding Habitat has been identified within the proposed development of Keys Parade. It is likely that this endangered amphibian has been found within Riverlands Golf Course.

I am at a complete loss as to why you would post on your social media account (Bankstown council Facebook) that we are in a known flood zone with the highest populated area near a river catchment and are we flood ready/prepared alongside a photo of water levels on someone’s home in 1986, yet 3 days prior send me the development plans to build in the flood zones you speak of, it simply defies logic to me that anyone let alone council members chosen to represent our community could be so stupid and ignorant as to send residents affected by the recent 2020 flood levels such advice (which may I add where much higher than the level of the 1986 floods depicted in your post) yet ignore the possible threat and still go ahead with this proposal
and build more homes in the zone and risk more people’s lives and homes.
This must be stopped before disaster occurs due to mans stupidity and greed.
You must also remember that many of our current residents are elderly (over 70) many who do not understand what you are doing or how to object via email as suggested in your letter, I’m sure many do not even know how to send an email, many who in the event of a 1/100 year event would struggle to evacuate due to their age, many who have lived here and owned homes here for several decades.
This proposal cannot go ahead, any planning to build banks to divert the flood waters will only impact other residents who have owned properties further along the river for many years, how is this fair to them?? Not to mention the lack of infrastructure to support the extra people in the community, Widening Henry Lawson drive in that small section will do nothing to ease the congestion once these homes are added, and the little wildlife that has survived the recent fires will be stripped further of possible homes and food sources. This is just a bad idea all round and I demand you reconsider this proposal and answer the community’s valid concerns.
