I think this is fantastic as the property has been sitting for years in dilapidated condition. The proposed works will create a better street vista and ultimately increase the quality of the street.

I disagree with the demolition of heritage house. Don’t appose to restoring original house on site ie keeping the front facade. The proposed house has no character and adds no visual appeal to the heritage area of East Balmain which should be preserved.

There are properties along William Street and Hosking Street that vary vastly in construction dates. 18 Johnston is not of Historical significance and should be knocked down and replaced with new dwelling. The property is an eye sore.

The proposal for this site was originally to restore the residence like they have done to other historical houses in Johnston Street and surrounds. The council has to continue to preserve the history of Balmain East. This house was built in early 1900’s and the facade should be kept at a minimum. These house make what Balmain is today full of character and history.

That house has been sitting around for years attracting druggies and assorted lowlife. It was once a cute weatherboard cottage, one of thousands still in the area. I hardly think it will be missed. The proposed plans seem to have taken into consideration the neighbors and in my view impacts the streetscape a lot less that red brick blocks of units or rows of modern town houses. Please Leichhardt council get rid of an eyesore.
